I am under the distinct impression that Vista sucks...in general....and definitely battery life, hehe.

Definitely the first windows upgrade in which I felt it was a downgrade.

XP provides more battery. Only for about 15 more minutes.

What about ME? It seems to be fashionable to bash Vista. Everyone did it with XP too.

If you turn off Aero, they should be fairly similar. XP may have a small edge if your drivers are updated. Remeber there is a USB+Intel bug with XP SP2 that will drain you battery quick.

I get better battery life with vista (atleast 15 - 20 min more) than my xp MCE. But my friend gets pretty much same on both though

There is no difference of battery life between XP and vista. The difference there is is that vista manages the systems resources better and knows better how to save power.

Using vista on power saving option, I get an average of 4h45 minutes while using firefox and MS office.

I can get a solid 4 hours plus on the 6 cell in the m1210 with the balanced power setting. I don't think anyone got those times on XP with it.

According to the battery meter I lose about an hour and 1/2 on vista, however, real world testing puts them about the same, in XP the battery meter would go down to about 50 minutes then in a matter of minutes dwindle all the way down and die. The only way to guage how your battery will really last is to test it and time it under several different operating conditions.
