    T2400 vs. t2600
    on a dell e1505 with 1gb ram 120gb HD @ 5400 RPM
the t2600 will end up being 200$ more.
How much of a difference will it make?

not much of a difference depending on what applications you are going to use

Not worth 200 bucks. Not even 100.

Go with the 1.83--it's more processor than you will ever need.

Isn't there a happy medium in the powerful, yet cheaper, 2.0GHz T2500?

no, because that would be logical. I have the 2500, and it's fine

the issue is that i can't get the t2500 with the dell deals this week in canada.
so i was thinking of going for the t2400 with a faster harddrive instead of going for the faster processor....
    so....
    t2600 with 5400rpm hd for 60$ more
    or
    t2400 with 7200rpm hd
    take your pick?

I would go with the T2400 because you will notice more performance because of the hard drive speed

I doubt you'll run into a situation where you will need more processing power than the T2400 1.83GHz offers. Unless the T2500 is a $60 or less upgrade from the T2400, then Dell is ripping you off.

so then the question is.... t2400 or t2400 with 7200rpm hd for 150$ more...

On the machine in my sig I ran Super Pi to 2m digits and it took 1:20. What have people been getting with the 1.66 and 2.0?

All comes down to how much you're willing to spend. $150 is a lot for a hard drive upgrade - too much, in fact.
SuperPi doesn't make a scrap of difference to put it bluntly. It is a useless benchmark with no real-world meaning. I wouldn't base any buying decision upon it.
