I want to sell the lappy in my sig on Craigs or paper and wanted to find out from the pro's what a reasonable price is. System has the camera, 6 months left on warranty, Office 2003 Student, Vista Premium, and is in new condition with box. Could y'all help me out on what I should ask?
Thx guys,

hmm...$1200
-
That's exactly what I was thinking but it configured ~$1700 with no coupons online.
-
at least $1200, whats the hurry of changing? it seems lk a pretty good laptop.
-
I'm pretty "impulsy" and soon as the 1530 came out, I could not stop my "checkout now" finger!

You have to figure that, regardless of how new YOUR laptop is, it is definitely less valuable from one from Dell brand spanking new. Even if yours is still in the box, one from Dell is more valuable. So, a good starting point is to configure the laptop with all available discounts and subtract from there. No informed buyer would pay anything close to retail for your laptop, because Dell can offer a better product for the same price.
Unless you find someone who is itching to purchase your laptop and unwilling to price one out on the website, I find it hard to believe you'd be able to sell it for anything more than lowest "new" price minus 10-15%. My guess is that you will have to go lower. I for one would not pay anything more than best retail price minus 20%. -
$1000 at the most. Consider that mine cost $1199 before tax and plant a tree ($2).
What you should do before you sell it is a clean install of Windows and keep your copy of Office 2003. -
$1100 to $1200 max
-
Well...., you wont see a big improvement with a M1530, certainly nothing worth of $500~$700.
-
so says u lol...u'll see a good imporvemnt in performance....but massive improvement in build quality and aesthetics lol
-
why would a 1530 with the same specs outperform a 1520?
-
The xps 1530 will perform better because in the 1530 there is gddr3 ram used for the graphics card where as is in the 1520 gddr2 is being utilized, this means significant memory clock differences and some have suggested up to a 30% performance difference because of the speed of the ram
-
IHMO.....Dell needs to create more of an difference between the inspiron and the xps, aside from offering DDR3 vs DDR2. The 1525 seems to be that answer. No 8600gt and only slower processor speed offered. I think the XPS is a great machine, but not enough of a difference to justify spending a few hundred dollars more. I think when dell starts to offer LED screens, and Penryn processors the XPS will be well worth the money. -
As far as Office goes, I bought the Office 2007 Ultimate for the $59 or $69 deal for students so I am just including the 2003 with purchase. Sounds reasonable I guess. -
I'm all for getting the most for what you're selling, but I feel it's unethical to sell or something for far more than it's worth to a sucker, that is, basically try to rip them off. Not that you're intentionally doing it, but a used, 6-month old 1520 with those specs isn't worth that much.
I say you just keep it. It's a great notebook and you'll only get a marginal improvement in performance.
How much should I ask for my lappy?
