The optical drive on my 700m is pretty noisy...especially when you put cd's in for hte first time. IT seems to work fine, however. How do I know if it's defective?
    Thanks

Is it just whiring nosies or clunking?

I have noticed my dvd player is sometimes freezing when I try to play dvd movies from blockbuster - it makes a funny noise and then won't play any further, it does start to work after a few tries however and this does not happen all the time...

Oh no, I don't have that problem - the optical drive works fine. It sounds like its turning inside...but its very loud, and very weird. I have a feeling it's gonna explode or something...

I have run into this many times where the drive vibrates inside the case and is very loud. I have found that removing the drive and wrapping a rubber band or two around it and then carefully pushing it back in the slot fixes this problem. It is usually held in by one screw on the bottom, then it slides out.
You have to put it back in slowly and pay attention to what you are doing or it will snag and break the band.

Try it. I bet it fixes your problem.

Actually, you can remove it when the computer is on. You just "eject" it and there's a switch on teh outside of the laptop you pull then the drive slides right out :)
