I have not purchased a new notebook since 2001. I want to upgrade this year, and right now Dell has $500 off on a $1900 notebook, plus I just got another 10% off coupon in the mail the other day, so I can buy a D820 with $667.50 off til Wed. I have not been in the market for a long time. Is this a rare deal, or does Dell do this often? I can live with a D820 now, or wait for a D830 with bettter graphics later, and hope for a really good discount.

Dell usually offers the best deals right before a big upgrade on their products. Research Santa Rosa and DX10, and maybe even post a FAQ, and we'll help you determine if waiting a little longer is worth it.

Also, are you sure that $500 off is for Latitude series? Because all I've seen the $500 off coupons are for Inspiron series.

i heard dell has $650 off coupon on inspiration last year. However its unlikely for dell to sell their business line laptop that cheap.

The Latitudes already were updated to support Santa Rosa, so I seriously doubt a $500 off sale for them is going to be on any time soon.

Dell has a $500 off on Latitude notebooks of $1999.00 or more til May 30. I also have a 10% Enterprise Summer Savings coupon that I received in the mail for another $167.50 which is calculated on the price less the $500 for a total of $667.50. I have the notebook spec'd with a 2Ghz CPU, 15.4 WSXGA+, 512MB Nvidia Quadro, Bluetooth, Vista Business, Intel wireless, 8X DVD+/-RW and 2GB of memory. I spec'd it out with a 5400 RPM drive to keep the heat down, but I might bump it up to 7200RPM.

Now if Dell only had the rebates on the discontinued D820, it would be a good deal, but Dell has it on the D830 also. The D830 has an Intel video chip only, so it is not very attractive. If I wait for Dell to update the D830, then I don't know if they will have the rebates in the future. This is why I am wondering how often does Dell offer a $500.00 rebate. Whenever I looked in the past, I only noticed rebates of about $250. I will not be playing DX10 games, and the Nvidia video should be just fine for occasional old games and DVD movies. Much more than my trusty ol 8000 Inspiron.

Chevy05, can you post the 10% coupon code so we can take advantage of it before May 30,... Kind of want the 830. $667.50 off will help me pull the trigger.

The 10% coupon states that it is a Single Use coupon. :(

chevy05 I think they mean single use per order or person. The coupon is not locked with your name on it.

Code is BBND4JJ7RN11B2. I'm still on the fence about buying something that expensive. I know the D820 or T60 would work. I would even settle for the D520 with a 15" standard aspect screen IF Dell would only have a better video chip. The D620 has too many unhappy owners with screen problems, and 14.1 wide don't excite me anyway. I did not check the coupon page here lately, but I just figured that there must be someone else that received this mailer besides me.

One question Chevy05. What is a Enterprise coupon? This would save me about $170.00 with the 830. I could also move up to the faster processor. The 7500 instead of the 7500 hundred and still have a loaded system. Of course I do not like intergrated graphics.... Was debating between this one and the Lenovo T61. but I love this 15 inch screen. I wanted the camera.. but I guess I could d without for the price. May have to pull this trigger.

Don't forget the free printer. After rebates which may not come, or even if it does, in 8-10 weeks, of course.

The Dell coupons used to be better, $750 off $1499, they've since discontinued that coupon though.

Last I checked, those couponed ended when Dell starting running into financial trouble and stockholders wanted change. Now, HP's leading the pack...which means Dell has even more to worry about. I doubt we'll ever see a $750 off coupon again.

I don't know why Dell calls them Enterprise Systems. I have purchased a couple of Dell notebooks for the business that I work for, and Dell must have mailed all their business customers their "Give Your Business A Jump On Summer" mailer.

Coupons also have a limited number of uses. Even if it says 5-30, it will probably expire first as enough people will use it.

Well I just tried to place an order for a D820 and Dell tells me the coupon was used. So I just lost $167.00, and we just proved that not all coupons can be shared.

I think that was a one time use coupon...

For future reference, if the coupon is not listed in our Dell Coupon's section, keep it to yourself.

That coupon gets used as soon as one person checks out with it. So despite the fact that one person on this thread said it would work, he merely applied the coupon and did not check out. That doesn't use the coupon.

    Nope :(

I tried to place an order for a new D820 and received an error that the coupon was already used. Of course it was used by someone here ;)

I e-mailed Dell this morning and told them that someone must have entered my coupon code by mistake and that I was a D820 prospect. I received an e-mail from Dell advising me to call a 800 number, and an extension in the business sales department. I will call tonight and see if I can get a new coupon. I think that $500 plus 10$ is a good deal on a loaded PC. I had priced a T60 and T61 out with Lenovo's Memorial Day Sale prices and I can get close to a Dell, but I think the D820 is the best way to go.

I was not able to use the coupon chevy05. Sunday it said that it was available. But the coupon somehow disappeared from my saved cart. I am like you, either the T61 or Dell 830 for me. I might just wait until June and see what comes. But according to a earlier post, it worked for someone on 630 or 620. So, I do not think it was a one time use.

I talked to Dell last night and it was definitely used and could only be used one time. They would not tell me who or what was purchased. I could not get the 10% off on my purchase, but I bit the dust and ordered a D820 with 2GHZ, 2GB, 60GB 7200RPM Drive, 8X DVD Writer, 512MB Nvidia(actually 256MB), and Vista Business. I am having buyer remorse symptoms today, but they will go away when it shows up late next week. ;) The D820 is mature and I have XP Pro corporate that I can load onto it if Vista is not ready for prime time.

I went Dell small business website and configured a D830 ($2276 before discount). I added it to cart but only see $407 discount. How were you able to get $500 off.

I saw this $500 off info on Dell's website, but tried many times and it never worked for me.

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. I want to upgrade my laptop, but also kind of wait for the July 4's possible good deals.

Chevy05, I guess Dell is not like Lenovo and the EPP program. I am still confused as to which to pull the trigger on, the T61 or D830.. I think I will just wait until june and see what comes. If the T61 comes out with the 15'4 screen, I will pull the trigger.

Now it sounds like you guys put it in the cart, and none of you actually used it . Sorry about that...I thought one of you guys did. Don't forget these forums are public, so anyone (not even someone on NBR) could have gotten to use it.

But yeah, coupons bite...I hope you guys can get the discount. Just call them...sales people are eager to make sales. Sometimes.

This is not a bad deal, making it very hard for me to decide between the D630 with the T7500 processor and Vista Business or the T61 that has the T7300 processor, Vista Home, but Turbo Cache.

After working on so many problem computers, I want to purchase something that is mature and not likely to cause problems. Santa Rosa chipsets are brand spanking new and I do not like being the first one out with a revision 1 motherboard. The D820 has been out for a while now and whatever Dell ships me should be the latest revision motherboard. When I purchased my Dell 8000 Inspiron, I waited til just before they jumped to the 8100, and it has served me well. I build my own desktops and have learned that motherboard manufacturers don't start out with the first boards being perfect and they make running revisions as they go along. The Intel Bad Axe and Bad Axe II are a good example where a number of revisions to the boards were made over their life time. I suspect the same thing with notebooks. The D820 should do everything that I want it to for years to come. Now with Vista, I could be making a mistake, but I have XP to fall back on. If I buy a D830 and have problems, I can't change it back to a D820. :)

I cannot really remember the last time hardware like this had issues during its releases. Twice I've purchased computers just as new tech came out, and I haven't had a problem. Just my two bits...

Now, as for everyone else...I'm deleting one or two very rude posts. Next time, they get deleted and I hand out infractions. What happened, happened...and quite frankly it is over with and nothing can be done about it. I'm sorry it happened, you're sorry it happened, so deal with it. Just don't hand out coupons unless you are sure of what they are, and don't beg people to give coupons when they are worried about it. Both sides were unfortunately misinformed about these coupons, so hopefully every one will get a little bit of a lesson about it now.

    Hey Chev,

I've been hawking Dell's prices since last November, on a daily bases. They've had $300-$500 sales on the inspiron line the entire time. Maybe 1 week or 2 weeks where the deal was under $300, but they always had a "deal".

And I quote "deal" because even with dell's deals, the price drop on their notebooks bring it on par with other brands.
