I recently bought a Vostro 1500 notebook and went to record with my own microphone and discovered that the in-built microphone that the notebook came with was picking stuff up too and it was causing the high hiss levels. I was just wondering, doesanyone knows how to disable the computers microphone from working when I record?

There's an option in my Latitude D830's BIOS to disable the built-in microphone.

Check the BIOS on your Vostro; there might be an option.
