I just ordered the XPS 1530 with Vista Home Premium.

What should I do to my old Sony FS-570 (with XP) to prepare for copying the hard drive contents to the 1530. I have a Memorex Intellimover CD with USB cable.

    1) I'm thinking I should run my V-Com SystemSuite 7 antivirus and defrag in safe mode. I'll also run all the diagnostic and optimization and spyware programs that the V-Com Suite has. Is there anything else I should do to avoid copying spyware, viruses or problems to the new computer?

    2) Should I rip my MP3's directly on the Dell, or copy them from the Sony with everything else? I'm concerned about losing sound quality.

    3) Any other tips????

    Thanks,
    Steve

The total system scan is a good idea. Might be a little over-paranoid, but it's better to be safe. if your mainly just transferring your documents like pics/vids/text/music, most of that should be safe.

As for ripping, it's not needed. just transfer the music over to the dell. you won't lose any sound quality from simply transferring the mp3's.

Personally, i'd suggest a clean-reformat of the dell before you start. you can if you want, i would. some people don't care, some do. the dells don't have much bloat, just their own stuff, so you can pick and choose what to keep.

    Good luck.

    Thanks FourForty!

To reformat, do I just put the supplied disc in and reboot? I imagine the advantage of this is removing bloatware.

Yes, put in the disk and press F10 until you see the recovery screen.
