    1) I do not think Dell is going to return a warranty, they'll upgrade...but not downgrade.
    2) See above.
    3) Considering that the order amount would probably fall down considerably (if that was even possible at all!), I'd say yes.

    Greg, thanks for your quick reply.

    I heard University students returning last year and getting:

    2nd & 3rd Year Warranty = $251
    LoJack = $149
    DataSafe = $19

    I don't know how it is now.

    Hmm! Looks I need to wait and discover things for myself.

    I did some investigating and it shows that I was charged for these items...

    LoJack Theft Recovery Service - 1 Year $49.99
    XPS,Datasafe 20GB,1YR,DHS $29
    1 yr Automated PC Tune Up $19

    But the computer itself shows up as only $650....hrmmmm?

    The thing about the University deals was you call to downgrade hardware (ram, GPU) before it ships, but return the warranty after you physically receive the laptop.

    I was successful on returning 1yr sub to LoJack, since it was charged on the invoice, I disputed and got $53.88 (includes tax). When I ordered my system, LoJack showed up as an included option.

    Dell's warranty fine print says that you can cancel any remaining warranty and receive a pro-rated amount based on what you paid for it.

    If it was free, as part of a special package deal, you may be out of luck. If it was specifically priced at an amount charged to your invoice, then you should be able to get a prorated amount returned.

    I dont think you should return the lojack though.

    My Inspiron 1520 was stolen on 10/1 from my vehicle. The thief swapped out the hard drive - and somehow, the laptop still reported itself stolen, and the laptop was recovered last week.

    (The police are waiting for clearance from the DA to release it to me, which should take another 2-3 days at most since the trial is over)

    I would highly recommend keeping the lojack software!

    Going through my Dell XPS M1330 Credit Memo (for the notebook I returned earlier) I found:

    Dell Hardware Warranty Plus Onsite Service, Initial Year EA: $189.00
    Type 3 - Third Party At Home Service, 24x7 Technical EA: $50.00
    XPS, Datasafe 10GB, 1YR (Incl w/price) EA: $17.66

    (I found out LoJack for 1 year was around $50)

    I am likely to go out of US for a year or so and if I can transfer the warranty to the new country, I would consider keeping the warranty. Dell Customer Support is giving conflicting answers. Does anyone know about this?

    LoJack is of absolutely no use to me as I have other more secure ways to keep my notebook from getting stolen. I cannot trust DataSafe for my confidential data and anyways backup my data regularly to optical media. So if I return these two, I doubt if I can even get $70 and likely lose $200 Gift Card. The problem with the gift card is that it will arive almost 2 months after your notebook is shipped but you are likely to buy the accesories in the first week of receiving the notebook.

    Lojack doesnt do anything to keep your computer from getting stolen.

    It helps you recover it, if it is stolen. There is a difference.

    No one expects their laptop to get stolen. Mine was locked up.

    Notebooks are portable. Unless you keep it handcuffed to your wrist 24/7, there is a chance it will be stolen.

    The EPP Deal now has dropped price by $100 and the hard drives now come with a free fall sensor. The catch is the Next Business Day Delivery now costs $19. My contacts told me that the Free Next Business Day Delivery was a glitch and the order will anyways be shipped via 3-5 Day delivery.

    I modified my order and added Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection to 3Yr Warranty for the same price I had paid yesterday.

    As I am likely to go out of USA and given the low refund amount for returning the other stuff, I have decided to keep the order intact.
