    Hi
I have Dell Inspiron 1520 and I want to boot Linux from my Kingston DataTraveller, but I can't!
I tried with Ubuntu and Slax. I tried also with a program called "memtest", only to test if it will boot from the USB, but every time I get "No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility".

"USB Emulation" and "Boot from USB Drive" are enabled in BIOS.

I have read that some people with this Dell are able to boot from USB.

    Could you help me?

    Turn off the computer.
    Plug in the USB drive.
Turn on the computer, tapping F12 repeatedly while starting.
Select the flash drive, and that's it.

My suspicion is you are not configuring the USB drives to boot properly, as it can be tricky and this is where most people go wrong.
I suggest you attempt GParted to confirm this, since it's very easy to do with GParted, here is the guide: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php

Also, some flash drives cannot be booted from for some reason, yours could be one of them.
