The Dell rep told me "The Vostro is a business system and is only available to businesses with a tax id or corporate card."

How do I buy a Vostro if I'm not a business?

    Thanks,
    Steve

He is lying. Just type in some fake buisness name when you order it online(like your full name) and they will ship it to you. Your warranty will not be void, and you will not be taken away by the Dell police.

Remember the fake buisness name btw!!!

Good reason :) I was just making sure you weren't under the impression that it was a way better machine, because they are the same.

Vostro = Less $$ and no bloat ware installed. I guess if I tried the Inspiron discount cupons the price maybe get to the same amount as a Vostro. Also I don't want white (Inspiron) on my computer - will get dirty from my fingers / palms (I fly dirty military airlift jets).

I didn't have any problem buying mine.
You have to call the Dell business division to order it, but they didn't care if it was for my personal use. I needed a company name, which I made up on the spot (and the rep knew it). No tax id was needed.

Yup...ordered a Latitude for my Mother in law a while ago using the small business website. Just used her name as the name of the business.

I hope you remember its name. If you ever call for a parts repair, they will ask to verify the company name!

No problem. It's on all the paperwork and mail that I get from them.
