I really dont rem if it takes 2 gb ram, secondly if i buy ram online (ebay) can i upgrade it myself.. Will i hav to open the laptop or i have to take it computer repair shop.

some one told me 1 upgrade it to 1 gb or 2 gb not 1.5 gb as i was thinking to buy 1 gb.

i also dont know how many memory slots it got.

    Here is the guide: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/sm/index.htm

Yes, you can buy the memory from Ebay, Newegg.com, etc and install it yourself. Most of us do this and have no problems at all. It does not void your warranty, but the new RAM will not be covered in your original warranty.

The problem is that you can't upgrade to 2gb. The maximum amount that your laptop will support is 512mb. ( Kingston.com)

Nope, the D600 can accept 1GB sticks. Check the User Guide for the D600 (have to download it first unfortunately):
Edit: That Kingston link was for the older C600 not the D600.

aww, helps if i pay attention to the 600 that i selected. I thought that sounded weird since the 610 and 620 both go up to 2gb.

    Sorry for the confusion.
