Check the screen with DeadPixelBuddy and also check for severe light leakage by using DPB and setting the screen to blank. I also might try burning a few CDs/DVDs with your drive also. Unless you notice anything that's really wrong with your notebook, you're probably good to go - the only major component that has problems is the screen.

Excellent idea right there . . that is, if you want a paperweight. ;)

In addition to what was previously posted, I would run memtest for a few hours, to make sure your memory is error-free and stable.

When I get a new computer, I typically leave it on for about a week straight - a sort of "break-in" period, just to make sure all the components are stable and working correctly.

    Cheers.

HD Tune is another good one to use.

In addition to my other post, don't blow out the speakers in the first few months by turning up the speakers to max. Break in the speakers by running them at low-med. settings at first.

    Thanks a lot guys!

I used DeadPixelBuddy and there is no dead pixel at all.

I will try to check for severe light leakage by using DPB tonight.

So far is good. I will do more test and give you guys feedback!

There is one thing bugs me. The DVD player dell installed seems not good. The screen is very dark, can't hardly see sometimes. I have tried windows media player to play the movies I downloaded from the internet(which is not in DVD format), and it's all good.

I need to download a new DVD player (maybe BSplayer?) to try again.

Another thing is Dell installed a bunch of garbages, which I dont like, but not sure if I should just remove those garbages or format it and install a new windows system.

Yeah Dell has alot of Bloatware on the comps, plus most have the hidden partition that can by removed by partition magic. Let us know how the tests go!!!

Cyberlink PowerDVD is generally made for DVD playback (i believe this is true). You might try using a DVD instead of movies that you downloaded to test it out. You can adjust the settings by starting PowerDVD, click on settings, but I doubt it will be much help to you.

You can always use another DVD player, but if you uninstall CyberLink, you'll need to find dvd decoder software. Cyberlink is the dvd decoder and playback software for Dell systems.

I don;t know how to check severe light leakage by using DPB

I did the Ram test, up to 300% no error, and I stoped.

I did HD tune, the result is as follows:

    Health: all OK
    Min: 15.9MB/sec
    Max: 39.2MB/sec
    Ave.: 30.4MB/sec
    Access time: 21ms
    Burst rate: 69MB/sec
    CPU usage: 39%
    Error scan legend: all gray(38MB)
    temp: 42 degree

    any comments?

    Thanks SuperGirl! :D

I did post in your valuable thread as well. I don't think there is any setting change can help in DVDplayer cause I tried them all. Thanks anyway!
