I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with lcd 1920 X 1200. I read somewhere that if you go in to Device Manager > Monitor, it will show the brand of LCD you have. However, my showed Generic PnP monitor. Any idea why or am I checking the wrong place.

They said LG is the best, while Samsung is fair, is it true?

Also, does 1720 have a program to monitor heat and fans speed?

Finally, I have a 256mb 8600 Graphic card, how do I made an extend screen to my 20 LCD monitor? Can I make the second screen in different resolution then my laptop screen?

    Thank you very much.

Open the device manager, double click on monitors, double click on plug and play monitor, click on detail box. It should say Display/with the part number. The first few letters should give brand.

Not exactly sure but I8KfanGUI may work with the newer laptops
