I have an E 1505 and a D 420. Both with wireless and the Intel 3945 wlan wireless. On the 1505 it uses the Intel every time without issue. On the D 420 which is primarily my wife's computer it does not stay with the Intel. It goes to the Microsoft tool. I have gone through all the control items and checked with what is supposed to make the Intel the primary. Does any one have any suggestions on how to fix this. If it was me using the 420 I know how to get it to connect but my wife is a novice at this and it frustrates her to no end. My going to the Intel site was not much help as was the Dell forum and a search on this site.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Found this site a year ago and find it very helpful. Was a major factor in the choice of the 420. Wanted something light and durable for travel. Wife did not want a big screen.

Right click on the intel utility and click on "use proset wireless to ..."
But I don't really know why you want to stop using the Windows tool. The intel tool has some nasty security problems and also it has memory leak.Much of the users (including me) prefer the Windows tool.

Thank you for the feedback. As a novice I made the assumption that the Intel was the better product. Also as I paid extra for it when I bought the 420 thought it was better. Will give the Windows tool a try and see what happens. Is the range the same for both tools.
