so any idea how to put its contents on DVD and get it working properly?
another question when i close the lid or use Sleep mode my Screen Resolution turns back into lower Resolution than the wide screen res. its annoying that every time i reset it into 1280x800 any solution?
    thnx all

You can make an image using True Image or Ghost.

Or get the FREE Seagate backup software. Its free to download from their site. Works the same as Norton ghost and is basically licensed off the Acronis backup software(same as norton ghost)

also works with FTP and external hdd connected through USB. Fantastic software........and its free!

It's free if you have a Seagate drive.

cant you simply make an iso of it and burn with something like nero or similar.. since its only the restore partition there is not actual user data stored there correct?? you can use vista's built in diskpart to make it a unhidden readable / writeable partition so why would you not be able to then burn a simple image of it.. then either rehide it or just erase it..

ok. i just read the EULA and yes it states the program can only be used with seagate or maxtor drives...........

but im sure Acronis was paid well for seagate to put this on their website as a free download.

So if you are morally against violating small print EULA warning then please do not use the program.

PS I do have a seagate hard drive in my computer but the OS is not on it. i wonder if im violating the EULA!

    Here is the fine print.....

    1. License Grant. Licensor grants to Licensee a worldwide, nonexclusive, nontransferable, royalty
free license to use the DiscWizard software (the “Software” ;) with Seagate and Maxtor branded disc
drives only. Licensee is permitted to make a single copy of the Software for backup purposes. Except
as expressly authorized above or as permitted by applicable law, Licensee will not: copy, in whole or
in part, Software or any related documentation; modify the Software; reverse compile, reverse
engineer, disassemble or reverse assemble all or any portion of the Software; rent, lease, license,
sublicense, distribute, transfer or sell the Software; or create derivative works of the Software.
Licensee obtains no rights in the Software except those given in this limited license.

would it be legal to use the software if i INTEND to use the image on a seagate HDD which i INTEND to purchase in the future. Or if the backup media happens to be an external Seagate HDD....

I think they want you to install it when you're about to migrate over to a Seagate or Maxtor drive. They offer it because they want to make it easy to switch over to one of their drives. I don't think they intend for anyone to use as a free download which why I pointed it out. I think if you have any questions about it, you should take it up with Seagate.

Nope. No questions. Just Happily making HDD images for free. :D

PS I do actually have Seagate HDD because of their 5 year Warranty. But this is a nice bonus.

however if i were Acronis or Norton i would have some serious concerns. Since Seagate is essentially offering a fully functioning software that sells for 69USD for free to be downloaded by anyone and they dont even explicitly mention it is meant to be used for Seagate HDDs.

Lol - they do "explicitly mention it is meant to be used for Seagate HDDs" in the EULA you already posted.

    As well as -

    1.3.1 Minimum system requirements
Seagate DiscWizard requires the following hardware:
    • At least one Seagate Technology or Maxtor disc drive

yes, but who really reads the EULA? I've never read one until now.

is 1.3.1 in the EULA as well?

What i meant was that it should have been mentioned more prominently on the website or perhaps a pop up when you actually download it.

This issue isn't mentioned anywhere except the EULA as far as i know.

While I am 'unknowingly' using this legally(i do in fact have seagate HDD), im sure thousands are using it 'ilegally' but without knowledge of their breach of the EULA.

And i think theres going to be a few hundred more downloads because of this thread. lol

Lol - you read it as you quoted from it ;) And 1.3.1 was just under your quote.

I think you'll find if you don't have a Seagate or Maxtor drive the program wont do it as it is a "system requirement". Certainly was the case with older versions of DiskWizard and Maxtors tools. You just think it'll work on any system cus it works on yours with a qualifying Seagate drive and that cannot be assumed. You can run the generic series of tests but thats it usually.

    Well, you should.
If you read M$ Vista's EULA you'll find out how much of your freedom you are conceding to Microsoft and its associates. It's impressive what they can do with your (and for the time being, mine) computer without even bother to tell you.

Is it true that Vista SP1 has an inbuilt image burning application? Wouldnt norton and acronis sue MS's ass for it? It will basically put Acronis out of business and spell the end to Norton Ghost.
