Hi there.
Is there a way to stop the battery from charging on a Dell Latitude 830?
When on a plane, the system runs fine from the seat power outlet until the battery tries to charge. Then, it trips the power outlet and you have to re-set it.
If I could stop the battery from trying to charge, it would just sit there and never discharge because the system would run OK from the seat power outlet.
One option of course is to just take the battery out but that is a bit scary because the power could glitch or trip and then the laptop would get a sudden hard power off which is usually very bad.
Thanks in advance if anyone has a suggestion.

try unplugging and re-plugging in the power adaptor when the battery level is above 95%. Some newer laptops may not charge if the battery level is more than 95% after the plug is replugged in

Thanks for posting - I gave it a try but at 96% charge, re-plugging the power cord does cause the battery to start charging again, it seems.

Just use it sans battery. It's no more lethal to your system files than the way desktops have been functioning for decades.
Most modern softwares and OS's offer system and file recovery upon a systems crash via their cache, and besides you should be saving often if the work is vital anyway.
How to disable charging?
