    Hello,
I want to ask this simple question, how to do it?? When i'm using 32bit Vista there is an option in original touchpad drivers that comes with notebook, but now i have Vista x64 installed and in the Synaptics drivers (not from Dell itself, but from Synaptics web page) isn't this option avalaible (or i didn't find it there).
Can someone help me with this?? Thanks a lot.

Just go to computer management and disable the touchpad in the device manager.

Well, this is a solution, but i need something like on/off option that was in the drivers...because when i disable touchpad in device manager and then unplug the mouse how can i turn it back on?? Without mouse...I need touchpad turned off only when i have connected some mouse...because when i'm in bus/train/whatever i don't want to use my mouse, touchpad is fine for that. I only check emails, ICQ and turn laptop off...but i can't do that when is touchpad disabled. (Yeah, i can do it using keyboard shortcuts, but it's very uncomfortable).

I'm not lazy, but imagine that you have to start Firefox, Thunderbird, QIP for ICQ, etc. and use it only with keyboard...that suxxx...or navigate to the device manager to turn touchpad back on...there must be some solution how to turn it off only when i have plugged in the mouse...

go to the touchpad options in the mouse settings menu, and there is a setting in there to do EXACTLY what you want

I take it you couldn't find Dell x64 drivers? Take a look at the Latitude models for a 64 bit Synaptics driver, it should re-enable all of the Dell options.

No no no...i have x64 drivers, but they are from Synaptics and they are "generic" for all notebooks with their touchpad.
I can't find Dells drivers which are like these - Dell Touchpad/Pointing Stick - in these drivers was an option to disable touchpad when i connect usb mouse. But in the x64 ones from Synaptics i can't find it. :( But as you mention, i will try the Latitude drivers, maybe it helps.

I'm probably blind, because i don't see it...please, can you make a screenshot for me?? Thanks a lot.

Now, I know that this may be blindingly obvious (or, perhaps not, apparently), but why don't you just REACTIVATE the touchpad JUST BEFORE disconnecting the mouse?

Yes, it's obvious, but imagine the situation: i'm at home (using mouse - touchpad is disabled) and i need to go to some client (i have a part-time job as computer tech) and i know that at client's i can use his mouse, so i don't take my mice with me (in this situation, i don't take my laptop in the backpack, but only in a sleeve, so everything more is only unacceptable ballast). But if i need to use laptop before i arrive to my client, i can't use it without mouse. I know that this situation happens once in a year, but you know...i want to be ready for it :D

I would if I could, but it seems DevCon isn't compatible with Vista 64bit. :(

And is it some setting in the drivers, or is it only automatically disabled when you connect mouse??

Well, that suxx...i'm using Vista 64bit, so it wouldn't help me anyway... :(

Yes, i've tried some drivers for Latitude, but i don't know if they are the only one for Latitude...do you mean some specific version??
I also tried the ALPS drivers, but i think they didn't work...but i try those you have mentioned.
