I posted this in the S15 thread already, but I thought more people might like to know. I searched extensively for this solution and never found it posted anywhere else.
In a nutshell, Dell uses the standard "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" in the Studios. My studio 15 didn't come with the little slot remote. So, I tried my regular Media Center remote and found it didn't work. I guess Dell wanted to prevent that. Well, there's an easy way to enable standard media center remotes (which can of course include Harmony remotes) so here's how:
All you have to do is change the driver. Go to device manager>Human Interface Devices>Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver and go to the update driver screen for this device. Choose to browse for the driver and then "let me pick from a list". You should see the current driver and "Infrared HID Device". Just change it to the latter, and now your IR will accept standard media center remotes! You can control Media Center, Windows Media Player, PowerDVD, and all sorts of other applications.
Hope this helps some of you, I was really happy to discover this myself.

1) If I install the device's real driver, it does not show up as "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver". It shows up as "ITCCIR Infrared Transceiver (EC)" If I go to "Update Driver" this is the only thing that shows up in the list.
2) If I install the Microsoft "Infrared HID Device" driver then it does appear to not cause an error, however it still does not work. If I "Update Driver" at this at this point, it still does not work.
Can you please post a screenshot of the properties for "Details" and "Resources" for the working IR port from Device Manager? I'm wondering if perhaps Dell switched chipsets and maybe now this ITC thing is incompatible with the method you tried.
Thanks,
