    Hello,
I'm new here, and have just gotten my Dell Inspiron 9300. I would like to Format the HDD and do a clean install, but i have a problem. I can't get it to boot from the CD (The one i made from the included Dell program). When booting up i seem to have 2 options: F2 to see bios or something i guess, and F12 to goto boot menu. Neither F2 or F12 works, and so i cant format and do a fresh install. What am i doing wrong, and what sould i do instead?

    Thanks
    Morten Dahl

I think should should do it this way. Boot the computer and you have to hit F2 almost right away. Just be prepared to hit it because once it starts loading XP it is too late. Then you change the boot order in the bios and change other setting to your liking. Save changes and reboot with the XP CD in. Then follow the directions windows gives you.

windows will not allow you to format an active partition, you have to boot from the xp disc

    1. enter bios (f2 when during POST), change boot order so that you boot from CD/DVD-Rom drive before the hard drive

    2. exit bios

3 if your xp cd is already in the drive, it should boot to it, it will ask u to 'press any key to boot from cd...", do it

    4. follow the xp install directions

It is generally a bad idea to give advice if you know nothing about the subject. You obviously know very little about computers.
If people wanted advice on which Pokemon is the best they will come to you.
In the mean time, let the adults handle the technical stuff.

Like they said before, you have to be very quick about hitting the F2 button. just keep on pressing it as the computer turns on. :)

Then switch the boot order -- CD before HD. As the computer boots it will ask you to press a key if you want to boot from the CD (assuming you already put the xp disc in), and u press a key, voila.

Make sure you at least have a copy of the network drivers -- as XP will NOT auto-recognize the network card in the Dell (I have the Intel card).

    cheers,

just wondering you used to perticipate in the forums now you just blow ppl ****. (hehe) I think its funny but what happend, did you learn everything you wanted to and are now bored or what?

I my self have been having it out with some dumb ass on the HP thread who thinks their ZV6000 can compeat with the 9300 in gaming just cause he has a AMD in his soon to be notebook but I keep telling him his video card cant hang with the 6800. but he keeps on any way. Its more fun to piss the ppl off on other threads than the one you may need help from one day. (just a thought)
    <hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>

It's cuz most HP buyers get it from BestBuy, listen to the 19yr old bad tempered, underpaid sales associate who has NO clue what's going on, and decides that they actually have a bargain... lol

    cheers,

    yass
