Is it technique?
My 9 month old Vostro 1500
My history with Dell. (in order)
2 Calls regarding re installing os
1 Call complaining about super heavy heat issues and casing flexible (they wanted me to send in)
1 Call complaining about a group of 25-30 stuck pixels (once again send it)
I did not send it in as a University student its rare I have a chance to send it it.
I will be telling Dell I have used a notebook cooler to control temperatures but there is still an issue. (the stickers on the bottom are peeling without the cooler).
Recently I noticed my gpu has been artifacting heavily (turns out is has been for a while) and decided I cant wait much longer so I am rushing my final paper (rest are exams) to finish it by sunday and send my notebook in. I am planning on calling dell but if you look at the list below you will see why I would like a replacement.
1.Stuck pixels on the right of the screen (already complained about)
2.Microphone Jack Does not function and never has
3.Annoying sounds through the headphone jack always. It sounds like this (youtube link)
4.Hard drive is ticking loudly (hard drive failure is close any day could be a year could be tommorow) also can hear it turning louder than music.
5.Creaking noise left of the media buttons when ever typing (wont notice without VERY big hands like mine) (aloready complained about)
6.Artifacting when ever I open a game no matter how old or new it is regardless of settings drivers etc. (means the game is going crazy google "artifact gaming" for pictures)
7.Power cable loose when ever plugged into the back of the notebook and requires no movement of the laptop when operating it plugged in or it plugs out
8) Too much heat, the stickers are peeling without a cooler (complained about already)
Meaning EVERY major component minus the dvd drive and memory (not even major) is faulty
Dell Japan no longer sells the Vostro 1500. What is the liklihood I can get a better computer out of the deal? How would I go upon convincing them of giving me a replacement?
For sending it in they say 10 days to 2 weeks? is it really that long? and they pick it up without a boxwhat am I suposed to give them? everything? notebook and power cable?
I know that I have to put the stock ram back in and will be reformatting tonight.
Thanks for anyone help and suggestions

Call and demand it.
If you get a rep who wont work with you, ask for a supervisor. If that does not work, call again.
Good luck. -
You've had all those problems, and haven't sent it in? I'm not kidding...Dell probably thinks you are trying to rip them off.
You'll have to send it in at least once or twice for the same problem to even consider getting a replacement...especially since you are like 8 months outside of the return policy window. -
backlight bleed it is ridiculous. and one scratch that is almost invisible.
Would demanding and pushing saying that all major components are failing be helpful?
cheers -
I doubt Dell even has any of that stuff on file. While it may seem like a lot of issues to you, they probably have nothing on their computer screens about it. You should have sent the system in long ago to get those symtoms fixed.
Also, just because it is no longer on the site doesn't necessarily mean they won't replace it with the same system. They still have parts/refurbished system I bet. -
I would recommend that after you get that fixed to upgrade the warranty to Onsite if you don't have time to send it in for repairs. -
Two years ago we purchased three laptops for my company (The Acer TM 8202 in my signature)
Two of them were excellent but not mine. It had a grainy screen, overheating to the point of bending the case plastic, an ugly white spot in the carbon fiber lid and weird noises from the fan. I had to send it back to the factory to get a couple of components replaced.
When I got it back the HD failed within 6 months and had to send it back again to CS. The other 2 laptops of the batch are still working wonderfully without a single issue. Mine was stolen BTW.
You, my friend, got a laptop from hell. My best wishes for you to get a replacement. I know how it feels. -
What kind of warranty did you get?
They may think you are trying to get something for nothing, but if it has the problems you say, and they can reproduce them, you should not have any problem.
Do they have a Outlet where you live? If so, check if they have 1500's on there...because you may end up with one of them.
I'm not sure if they would even try and repair something with this many issues?
Good luck. -
I believe they dont run outlet here in Japan since it is a very small market for them.
Im planning on calling them possibly tommorow and begin explaining my issues. It is japan so they have to be polite
Thanks so far guys -
Does Japan have its own Dell Tech support, do they have Japanese speaking people from India?
-
-
Yeah...its hard enough to figure out what someone who a thick indian accent is saying when speaking english...I couldn't imagine someone with the thick indian accent speaking japanese.
Your location says you are from Canada / Japan. Are you Canadian living in Japan, or what? -
Half Canadian Half Japanese. Grew up in canada but spent all my summers in japan (lived in japan when I was 2/3 ish for a while) then moved to Japan for University but go back to Canada often
-
That is cool. I love Canada. I've had a lot of fun there.
My mom spent time in the Japan when she was in the Marine Corps. She loved it...she still talks about it all the time, and she hasn't been there in 23 years. -
Oh sweet. Both countries I love but canada blows me away.
-
Well I was going to let my notebook die since it seems it would happen soon but It is now having sevre slowdowns after a clean install.
Currently on the line waiting for a operator. wish me luck
-
Well they want me to send it in and they run their own tests >.<
-
I have a feeling they will replace the mobo and tell you its all fixed.
Good luck. -
X2P,
Of course they want u to send it in...I am going to bet you havent got NBD on site warranty right?
Secondly, getting a replacement system is not the easiest thing in the world through Dell. For me and the few others I know who have been granted this, it has taken several service calls and part replacements. It took 2 mobo, 3 hd, 2dvd, 2 battery, 2 dvd, 2 cpu/heatsink replacements before they finally replaced my M1210 a year later. I don't really understand how you have used your system for...how many months...and it still works after what u describe. -
Thanks for telling me your expierence.Glad that they resolved it. Well it appears my situation has been getting worse and worse and worse. I believe it was artifacting so small it was unnoticible but recently small artifacts appearing etc. The mic jack I never used. The screen happend 2 months ago they just popped up. The HDD has slowly been getting worse and worse aswell. My first guess is possibly faulty motherboard but I am not an expert on motherboards (unless fried by power surge then I know my stuff).
ThanksThey said to reformat and remove ram and dvd drive. I am planning on putting a folder on the desktop saying "look at this" and include pictures of artifacts and then also as the desktop image a white background (pixels are most visible) and put a circle around it to point it out.
I will also be taking pictures of the entire notebook incase of any cosmetic damage. Would I be able to complain about any noticible cosmetic damage?
Thanks everyone -
Well I have a crisis.. I needed to take my notebook to school one last time ( to get stuff on it that i can only get from a school connection (university)) and I show up i have a couple classes notebook safe in case next to me. I open it at lunch when im getting ready to work and bang I have a huge chipped piece of the lid and a dent on the inner casing. How should I tell Dell? I have stopped using the computer to prevent any other harm. I have no clue how it happend i was with the notebook the whole time I do however commute by train and bus and bike 2 hours each way.
Thanks
EDIT : Well Dell came early to snag it and I just gave it..
How to get Dell to give me a replacement?
