Hey all, I think I remember a thread detailing how to get the OS and driver CD from Dell after ordering you notebook with out paying the $8 fee. There was a series of instructions to follow, who to email, what to say etc...
    Any one remember that?
    Thanks,
    Shoe

Hey, all you have to do is call their customer support number and ask a representative. They will ask for some specific information including name, address, phone, service code, etc. Make sure to ask for all the discs specifically

    1. Windows XP MCE disk
    2. Dell Drivers/Utilities disk
    3. PowerDVD
    4. Sonic RecordNOW

They should send it to you in about 3 days or so.

    It's quite simple.
Login to your acount, go to the support page, choose contact by email, fill out every required field, wait 2-3 days, done.

if you can email or call dell for "free" OS disk after you order your notebook... is there anyreason to spend the $10 to get it when you order your notebook?

is it the exact same disc?

also doesnt the driver cd come with your notebook automatically? or is a different disc then the one you can call/email dell support for later?

I can get drivers online for my wife's old 5100. Can't you still do that? If so, download the drivers (for free), burn them on your own CD, and put it in a safe place.

I emailed Dell and asked for the MCE OS disk, which they sent me overnight. I then emailed and asked for the Driver & Utilities disk, and they send me another OS disk and the Driver disk. I needed to reinstall Dell Media Experience so I emailed them for the Applications disk and the sent me the OS, Driver, and Applications disks. All of these overnight.

    Sheesh.
