I have a dell inspiron 1318 with a bad mother board. It appears there was more than one mother board used in this model. How can I determine which one I have? What about the service tag no?

    Hello, kleimanr, welcome to NBR.

You should be able to find the service tag on a sticker located on the back of the laptop.

Sometimes Dell puts an entire UMA FRU P/N along with other things, you may not be able to directly find out which FRU you got from the factory just buy looking at your service tag. The best way is so disassemble the entire laptop and find the Dell FRU DP/N sticker on the motherboard and find out the actual part number.

    Hi,

As katalin_2003 mentioned your alphanumeric Service Tag can be found on a label on the bottom of your system or at the back of your device. Please open the below mentioned link and refer to the same for more information about finding the Service tag.

What is a Service Tag and How Do I Locate It? | Dell

Once you get the Service tag of your system, open the below mentioned link and enter the Service tag in the respective box. Once you click on ‘Submit’ after entering the Service tag it will open a page with the information about your system. Please click on ‘System Configuration’ and then select ‘Components’. It will display the list of components installed in the system initially. You may refer to the same for the information about the Motherboard. Also you can send a private message to me with the Service tag of your system so that I can check the details and get back to you.

    Support | Dell

In case you wish to disassemble the system as suggested by Tsunade_Hime, you may refer to the Service manual. Please use the below mentioned link to view/download the Inspiron 1318 Service manual.

I hope this helps. Please do reply in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks & Regards
