I want to play my games in their native resolution. How do I do this without actually changing my desktop res?

I have no idea, but do you mean running it at 1280x1024 (or other standard resolution) and having two black bars on the side, or running it at 1280x1024 with the game stretched to fill the screan

The game themselves set a default resolution when they boot into your computer. You would have to go into the settings for each game to change the resolution. Also, a lot of today games automatically sense the hardware in the computer and change the resolution to either match what the computer already has or match it to what they feel your computer can handle for the game.

Go into settings and change it to what you like. Some games change it right there and some ask you to reboot the game.

Isnt there an option to scale the resolution without affecting the aspect ration i.e. IOW you would be seeing something like black bars on either side.... ??

I believe you can force aspect ratio through Nvidia's control panel.
