Okay I downloaded rivatuner, but when I look at the display where it shows all the speeds, it only says it's at 200 mhz? i then realized I wans't using any graphic intensive app, but then when I overclocked my gpu, still no change. my question is how do you test the results of overclocking? i can't run 3dmark all the time, it takes like 30 minutes to run one test. on may websites there seems to be a "test" button under rivatuner, but mine doesn't have it.

What tools do you use to check clock speed?

I was told that with rivatuner, if you crank up the clock speed, it snaps right back - unless you download the drivers from that website. I havent tested it, Im just repeating what others have said.

Im using Forceware version 169.17 frm LaptopVideo2Go and it's working fine with RivaTuner. I just set my GPU clock from 200Mhz to 600Mhz and Memory Clock from 200Mhz to 500Mhz it runs great now.
If you need a guide on how to do this, check out this link:

I followed all the instructions and it ran fine for me, hope it works for you ;)

You can't use Dell's drivers, you have to use nVidia's drivers.

Also, you guys need to realize there are different profiles for your graphics card. The only profile you should be overclocking is the performance (on power) setting and not any of the power saving (on battery) modes.
What video card are you running? Because the default for the 8600M GT is 475/400. If you overclocked the 200/250 profile, you didn't overclock anything. You just boosted the power saving mode to use more battery life.

Every card is different. Google it to see if you can find anyone else's numbers and us ATI Tuner to find your max settings.
