Just got my new Studio 1535. I see blank Asset Tag and Owner Tag in the BIOS. How to change these?

Let us know if this works for ya... -
Great, now I just have to:
- run this on a system with a floppy drive (what's a floppy drive?)
- copy what it creates to a bootable USB stick
- run it and see what happens
I'll try it and let y'all know. -
On a side note - what's the big deal with having these tags in BIOS? How does that help?

Oh, and I found a link about how to easily change the service/asset tag on dell machines. Apparently, you need a utility from dell called BR105717.exe.

There are apparently many versions of this utility. The link provided by somms did not work but I found R109071, that one did the trick. The one listed by emignatius appears to be the same thing but for a Poweredge 430SC.
Code:Utility : Dell Asset Utility Version 2.09 For Dimension : 4700, XPS Gen 3, 4700C, 5000, 9100, XPS (Gen 5), XPS Gen 4, 5100C, 5100, DXP061, DXC061, DM061, 8400; OptiPlex : 170L, GX280, SX280, 745c, 745, GX620, GX520, 210L, GX270 / GX270N; Precision : 670, 470, 370, 380, 690, 490, 390 For Operating Systems : Any Operating System Languages : English
By the way, it appears that a thief would have to be pretty knowledgeable as the fields are NOT editable in the BIOS, that's why I needed this utility program. I doubt most laptop thieves are in the habit of reading technical websites but you never know.
The Studio now displays my name and phone number above the dell logo at boot time. It will at least be helpful, if I lose it and it's found by an honest person. -

ran the disk creator on a system with a floppy drive, then copied everything from the floppy to a bootable usb stick. i found the instructions somewhere on how to make a usb stick bootable a long time ago.
you could probably also boot from a usb floppy drive or burn it to a bootable cd. -
Ok, making a bootable CD should not be a big deal but I am still confused. Are you saying that first make a bootable CD and then copy this R109071.exe on it?? (i don't think that it will work as bootable CD once made will be closed for further writing?). I just don't have any machine any where which has a floppy drive any more !!! (Can't believe Dell doesn't see this problem)

Sounds cool.

i wish i knew enough about computers to be able to do this lol

How to populate the Asset Tag and Owner Tag fields on a 1535?
