Pressing F8 should give you that option and using that alone you can do the factory restore.....

Make sure that when you're pressing F8 that you're timing it between the blue DELL screen when you first turn on your PC and the "Starting Windows" screen that you get after. You can press F8 more than once if you're bad with timing, but you basically have 2 seconds for the system to register your keystroke after the DELL screen has gone away.

From there you should be able to select Repair Windows, which will take you to a Windows-like environment, giving you several options. The last option is the Dell Image Recovery, which works from your HD.

Its not your Dell, its the OS. F8 is a part of Windows. As long as Windows is installed, you can use F8. You're not pressing it at the right time. Re-read my post and try again. If you're pressing F8 right after you hit power, you're hitting it too soon.

You can push it more than once too until the menu appears.

there is actually another way to restore Windows Vista along with the other software that came with the computer using the Vista DVD. just call Dell Technical Support so that they can guide with this. :)

At least some of the Vostro laptops do not come with restore image on HD. It has been reported a few times. The same case for my Vostro 1400.
