I want to speed up on old Dell Inspiron 600M by replacing the hard drive. I don't need a lot of GBs, 80+ is fine.

    I have a few questions:

How can I ensure the drive is a drop in replacement?

    Any drive recommendations?

How do I get Windows XP home SP3 onto the new drive? Is there some way to make recovery CDs or clone the existing drive and reload it onto the new one?

The drive is quite easy to replace on most notebooks...you should however consult the service manual on the dell website for the 600m.

The other thing to consider is whether you need a EIDE or SATA HDD...I would bet on EIDE, but you should check...oh and the smallest drives are 250Gb nowdays, you might however still find 160Gb ones, but they won't cost less.
