    Hi,

I was curious how I could stop the CPU from going from 2ghz to 1ghz in Vista?

I went into power & changed the perfomance to Max, but it is still throttling the CPU.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Rich

It is done to save power and reduce heat. When the CPU power is really needed, it is automatically brought up to full speed.

If you want to disable CPU throttling, you have to do it under the BIOS.

This happens by default in Vista? I didn't even know this.

Not Vista, per se, simply default setting on all Dell's mobile system's BIOS as far as I know.

All you have to do is go into the advanced power settings and then there's a processor management section where you can change the minimum and maximum processor states. I wouldn't recommend it though since it works well the way it is, and there will be more heat and less battery life if you do this.
