    HI

I got my M1330 with a LED screen. well I ordered it in LED. however, the screen is not as bright as I thought. It is just about the same with my thinkpad T61p.

the other thing is it came with a 6 cell battery and I found the battery life is very poor. I could just merely get a 2 hour, without runing anything major (just the 50% light, wireless on bluetooth off. reading news)

can anyone tell me how to physically distinguish the LED and LCD screen, whithout compare them head to head? I checked over and there is nothing on the panel saying it is an LED. And comments on the battery life?

I also found the laptop is a bit noisy. without the main fan running, there is a quite big noise there. can be cleary heard in a quite office.

    spec are
    2.0GHz, core duo, 8400 128M, 160G HD, 2G RAM
    6cell battery, and LED display

Only got few days to return the goods. please help me.

no document about the warrenty. dell website do not recognise the service tag. service tag can not be detected by dell website...

    updating: the battery wear level

I just found the battery has been worn of 9%, that's for a new laptop. what do you got?

If you ordered an LED, chances are it is an LED. Take a look at this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166419

The CCFL display results in a top lid that is visually almost twice as thick as an m1330 with LED screen.

You could always ask for a replacement and do a screen comparison. I personally find the backlight almost blindingly bright; and usually run it one notch down, even when plugged in. My coworkers all use Thinkpad T-series and I would say that my m1330 is definitely a bit brighter.

The fan is noisy, as there are hot components inside. But mine rarely comes on when using the computer normally (Web, Office, etc.) - it roars like a jet, however, the instant I start playing Bioshock :D

And that battery life does not sound correct at all. I have essentially the same machine specs as you, yet while running about half brightness and wifi, i get over 3hrs of battery life.

Would you like to reconsider that statement Captain Exaggeration? :)

There's only a few millimeters difference......it certainly does not look twice as thick.

Thanks for the reply. cause I did not got the laptop from dell directly, I maybe cheated by the ebayer for a 2nd quality screen.

The link you give is good, but the you will have to comparing the two side by side to tell the difference. Is there any other way to found out? for instance is there a hardware ID which I can read from the system information?

you are lucky... though I read reviews saying that the 6 cell battery can last 3.5 to 4 hour in these kind of usage.

This maybe the time to look for a 9cell battery.

Right, my one is 7.6mm..... how come?

    still have no idea.

About the service tag. I had scaned the PC on the dell website, and it said can not found the service tag. when i input the service tag (on the bottem of the laptop) into the website, and checking, it said: no shipping data, no warrenty, no information.!! I had this in 4 years warrenty according to the seller! checked with the document, nothing said about this laptop.. spec, or warrenty. It was sold as new!

can anyone tell me are all these things normal?

Its 2.21 to 3.38cm thickness of the whole notebook with WLED, starting from the front to the back - 2.46 to 3.63cm thickness with CCFL.

I took these specs off the Dell US website (and there was even a typo in the specs). It said 24.6 to 36.3 cm thickness with CCFL!!

The only way a machine is "new" is when it is purchased directly from Dell or one od Dell's authorized resellers.

If you bought it from a private party (most certainly on E-Bay) is is not technically new, you are now the second owner.

If I remember right, warranty is transferrable, but the service tag also should come up on Dell's web site.

    Somethjing smells a bit 'fishy'....

Difference is in mega pixels. 0.3MP for LED, 2MP for CCFL.

If the CCFL lid is 8mm and the LED's lid is a 'few mm less', isn't it reasonable to say that the former is almost twice as thick as the latter?
