Hi, I just received my Studio 1555 and powered it up for the first time. :D

I was wondering how do I tell what company manufactured my screen, as I know LG and Samsung both make them, and maybe some other companies as well?

    Thanks.

    Yes AUO are used also.

Go to control panel > displays (or monitors, I forget which) > details > change the drop down box so it says "Hardware ID" and you should be able to determine the manufacturer.

Hmm, I double checked control panel in both normal and classic view, and there isn't any option for displays or monitors, even when I type them into the search box.

Nice, turns out I got an LG.
I'm so happy it's not samsung, I've heard nothing but bad things about them.

Does it matter what manufacturer it is? I've heard some people say bad things about other manufacturers too you see. The important thing is not the manufacturer (as they can all produce duff displays), but whether you are happy that it works as you need.

I have the same model of laptop (studio 1555) I followed the same instructions and under manufacturer it says "(Standard monitor types)" any ideas? I have done a complete format of hard drive and reinstalled OS if that makes a difference.

I was worried about getting a Samsung too - but mine is an AUO and I can honestly say that it is beautiful - very bright, almost too bright, but the colors look very good when it's not at maximum brightness. It is noticeably (noticably?) better than the 1400x900 LED display on my M1530.

I've had two AU Optronics 1080 panels with flickering backlights in a row - the engineer fitted an LG one today and the flickering is fixed (see this thread which is probably a bit too old to bump now).

Yup, but my point is still valid. It's not the manufacturer that really matters, it's whether you are happy with it. I bet some LG displays are dodgy also. Just that there may have been a large batch of dodgy units from AUO that you've been unfortunate to have two of.

False. Dell gets most of their parts from other sources. Hard drives, for instance, come from Western Digital, Hitachi, or Seagate. Memory comes from Samsung or Hynix. Processors from Intel and in some cases, AMD. Graphics come from ATi, nVidia, or Intel, and their display panels come from AU Optronics, LG-Philips, Samsung, and Chi Mei Optoelectronics for the most part.
