A lot of us buy laptops off eBay or Craigslist, and we don't get the sellers name, or the seller isn't the original buyer. If it has any warranty left, you definitely want it in your name, so you can use if your Dell unfortunately breaks down. When trying to transfer the warranty with out the previous owners name, Dell will give you grief. After trying to transfer the warranty of my M1330 with out the previous owners name, I found out how to do it.
When I called Dell they gave me the run around(Duh its Dell), so I tried online chat. Once they found out my problem they gave me the same number I had already tried calling. After research, I found this link to online transfer.
Transfer Warranty
In the previous owner name slot just put "No Information" in the first and last name boxes and in the zip code box(no quotes).
Add your info, the service tag, and express service code, click submit. I tried it twice today and now I have a brand new motherboard being sent for my M1330. It worked for me, and hopefully works for you.
If the above doesn't work:
Try this: https://www.onlineregister.com/dell/
International Warranty Transfer
Here's the International Warranty Transfer Form. I haven't used it, but my guess would be enter "No Information" in the owners name and all that, then enter the country it was purchased in. If you don't know what country it was purchased in, your probably out of luck.
International Form: http://support.dell.com/support/top...ansfer_form1?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1
NEW: You have to enter "No Information" in the zip code box.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I've found that it works "best" if you actually load it in IE and have the site "validate" your service tag.
Sometimes it does take a couple days to go through, even if it tells you that the tag has been successfully transferred. One rep has told me that the people on the other end manually enter the info... dunno how much of that is BS. -
I just tried this on got this message
""We're sorry, we are unable to process your request immediately. We are forwarding your request to the proper Dell organization. Please allow 10-15 business days for processing. Thank you for choosing Dell."
it didn't really load another page, this just appeared on top of the current page.
is this normal? 10-15 days?! -
What type of laptop are you transferring? It worked instantly for my XPS M1330 and Inspiron 1501. -
So they're just sending you the motherboard and not sending a tech out to do the work or requiring you to send it in? If this is true I'll bet there are some scammers on ebay contacting people with Dell laptops for sale and asking for the service tag and code and then trying to transfer the warranty to their name and then scamming Dell to send extra parts to them. I've sold Dell laptops on eBay and it's assured that somebody will ask you for service tag info and insist they just want to verify the warranty.
-
They're sending me a tech and motherboard. -
-
-
my request was denied...I didn't enter the express code but I don't think that matters.
I also spoke to someone on the chat and he couldn't do it himself. Today I have to call again. -
-
I managed to transfer the warranty. but i had to talk to someone at the resolution department.
probably the express code would have helped. -
UPDATE: Dell Tech cam by and installed a new motherboard, and I'm typing this on my M1330
i luv u dell -
ahaha! before I get to the yell part I try to be polite, it always helps.
sweet deal on your XPS, you should check my other thread to see what I am up to -
I wonder if it's going to work with the international transfer. I tried with filling No Information and now they ask me for the express code, where i bought it and the sellers ID and real name (which i dont have). So i will let u know how this thing turns out.

I'm in the same situation, Bought a Dell Precision from a guy off Ebay, . still has 200 days left on warranty.
I've spoken to chat support but they say I needed the original company name it was registered with. I emailed the guy but he didn't have the details anymore.
I used the international ownership transfer and entered 'No information' in both the 'Original Owner' & 'Original Owner E-mail Address' boxes and its sent my request off.
I'm not too hopeful to be honest, any success stories with the international transfers? -
-
I have found that by entering the Express Service tag will increase your chances of a successful transfer.
-
Just an update, this method still works. Last week I transfered a Dell Studio XPS 1340 and this week a 1647. Just make sure you enter that Express Service Code.
-
Going to try it tonight with my R2. International Transfer.
Will let you know.
Anyway to check if the warranty has officially and really been transfered?
Great post btw! -
-
I did this, didn't work the first time, tried again the other day, and got an email asking for the express service code, hopefully this goes through!
EDIT: It worked. Thanks! -
thanks -
-
didn't work again...
this is the email that came back:
-
You should try calling? -
Express service code i added as a comment because there is no specific line for it.
It seems the problem is the country of origin.
I don't understand because when i go to my personal account, i added the m17x with its service tag to "my systems" and it says the country of origin is Canada...
So what the hell? -
So glad I found this post. I just followed what was suggested and typed no information for the international transfer. It said my request had been sent successfully. How will I know the transfer has gone through?
-
-
Try it a couple of times, and It should work...
If not call a Dell rep. ... some of then can really do a very good job ^^ -
I just transferred the warranty on an M1730!
-

-
I tried it with the form you fill in on the net... didn't quite work..
I call a Dell rep in europe, and he did it in 24 hours... -
i tried with the form, lets hope all goes smooth. If i dont get a response by Wednesday i will try again.
-
-
If you have an information missing put "NO INFORMATION"...
-
filled out the international form sunday night and also yesterday..still havent heard anything
in case i have to call, what would i say to them? :S -
-
Hi,
If you know who the original owner is or their address fill it out appropriately. If you do not,you can still register it with the service tag, and express service code. For the previous unknown owner put "No information" for the first name and last name blanks of the previous owner. -
While nice to transfer a warranty, I have never, and I mean EVER had to have a laptop registered when I've dealt with Dell's service.
The service is attached to the laptop/service. I had a Dell I purchased off here that was attached to a previous seller that I forgot to transfer. Had no problems getting service.
This is in 15 years, 20+ Dell machines I've owned. Every time I've needed help/repair, a simple chat give them the service tag and voila I'm golden. -

Bought a Latitude E6410 off eBay which turned out to be a Korean version (I'm in Australia)
Filled in the International Warranty Transfer form and clicked on the "Automatically Detect My Tag" button at the beginning and it jumped to section 3 (New Owner Information) when I clicked on continue. It didn't ask me for any information regarding the previous owner. Anyone has had any similar experience? -
-
"THANK YOU, SERVICE TAG ***** HAS NOW BEEN TRANSFERRED"
Should i call the rep and check to make sure it really did transfer like the webpage said?
and random question, why do you buy so many laptops? lol
Thanks -
OT:
When I was almost 15(2 years ago) I wanted a laptop, and the best way I found to make money was to buy, sell, and fix computers. -
Hmmm, good stuff, why didn't I think of that -
-
Wow...
Finding this kinda upsets me..
A couple years ago I bought an m1730 in December that was off eBay. But it was essentially a brand new m1730. Having been constructed in the month of October of the same year. It had a 1 year Warranty on it that I had tried transferring to my name. However, when trying to seek help from Dell they were giving me the run around.
The m1730 was shipped to the USA from Canada but looked like it was originally from the UK. So they were giving me issues because it wasn't showing up as an American service tag. I was never able to get help on this.
Now looking at how you did it, I go and do the same thing... and from my point of view it looks like I'll finally have this system listed under my name. Though seems pointless now as the warranty has since expired... and I could have used it. I wanted to extend it before it ran out but as I said... Dell were giving me the run around. -
Finally received the e-mail stating that the ownership transfer has been completed today. Took about 7 business days. It seems like all the warranties are transferred as well (different country but same region transfer)
-
Thanks for the info.
I do travel quite often to Europe. Is complete care transfereable from The US To EU region?
Cheers
