Okay, umm, odd request, I know Dell STILL doesn't have 64-bit for the Dell Studio 17 only 32-bit, but is there a way to GET 64-bit?

Like, is there a specific person or department at Dell to get the 64-bit discs...free???

How would I turn my 32-bit OS into the 64-bit OS if the discs were provided?

    Any help much appeciated...

There is a thread hidden around here in the forums somewhere that details the Dell internal document allowing you to get the x64 Vista Ultimate disc mailed to you (thats how I got my disc ;) ). I'm sure someone would be able to post the link

I would also like to know how you can get a Vista Ultimate 64 bit disc from Dell, because as I understand the Dell policy, they will send you a 64 bit disc of the same operating system type as you recieved on your pc. In other words if you bought it with Vista Home Pemium 32 bit, then they would send you a Vista Home Premium 64 bit disc, but not the Ultimate version.

To so to the 64 bit Vista Ultimate you'll need to purchase the upgrade from Dell.

If they say they will send a Vista 64 bit Ultimate OS then I'd love to get one, so please put in some info and a link showing where we can get this for free because I think you have to buy it.

This used to be true with XP, but Vista works on a different system. Ultimate contains ALL the versions of Vista. So when you type in your key at the beginning of the install, it changes to the version you bought.

(ie. I used my friends Ultimate retail DVD that contains both 32 and 64 bit versions of everything. Just typed in my key off the bottom of the computer and it changed to a 64bit Vista Business install)

So you can love to get one all you want, but it does you no good without a matching Ultimate key.

I opted for Windows Vista Home Premium, is there a set of directions to get Dell to send you the 64-bit discs for free?

**** it, what did i miss?...

Have just brought the studio 17, does this mean it will not come with 64bit vista?, I am planning on reformatting when i get the laptop to remove bloatware, will i not have the option of installing 64bit?.

i went with the 4gb of ram, and i thought 32bit windows struggled with anything over 3gb?...
