I downloaded the bundle from nviadia site and the install program tells me that he can“t find an apropriate hardware...? How do you people update your nvidia drivers on xps1330? thanks, Quido.

From one newb to another:
The inf file included in nvidia's installation package does not recognize the 8400gs. You can either stick with the dell drivers or (better) grab a modified installation from laptop video 2 go, a website that offers modified installation packages of updated drivers, since we all know Dell isn't putting them out fast enough. I've had good luck with 165.01, for what it's worth.
And in the future, check out the search feature, it is pretty thorough, and a lot of this kind of stuff has already been covered. -
Why don't Nvidia support their own graphics card? That sounds ridiculous.
-
It's an oem version, so it's up to Dell to release compatible updates (fairly standard procedure), and Dell doesn't release updates often.
As already stated, this stuff has been covered in many previous threads. -
I use an OEM copy of Windows... and a number of other softwares, but I still get all of the official updates for those.
What has 'OEM' got to do with anything? It's still an Nvidia card. Just as my Synaptics touchpad on my works 1501 accepted it's new drivers from the Synaptics corporate website last week quite happily; I'd expect no-less of a GPU, or any other branded component, regardless of who built the machine.
Doesn't everybody? -
Ignore this post.

So I've made a personal discovery that might be of interest to other people using Nvidia hardware with their Dell notebooks.
First a couple of quotes from the NVidia website:
'Mobile GPU's like the GeForce Go and Quadro Go family of mobile GPU's use drivers that have been customized to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior that are normally found in notebooks. The reference desktop graphic drivers that are provided by NVIDIA on our driver downloads page do not include these custom features. For this reason, the NVIDIA Forceware NVIDIA graphics display drivers will not install on most Geforce and Quadro family of mobile GPU's. Some newer laptops have been designed to work with our drivers.'
Then I read this:
'For other notebook models, please visit the drivers page for your notebook manufacturer. Since UDA drivers support backward compatibility more recent drivers for more recent notebook models from the same notebook vendor typically provide enhancements and maintain support for hotkeys and suspend/resume behavior.'
This would indicate that the presence of the M1730 and it's support page housing a shiny new Nvidia driver dated 27/09/07' is of more use to your M1330 than the actual M1330's hosted driver dated '11/07/07'!
I hope you found that information as enlightening as I did. I am unable to test this out on this here ATI powered Dell, but should anybody care to give this a whirl I would really appreciate the feedback. -
Yeah, we've all known that around here forever now. We actually have set up a sticky in the gaming forum called ****READ BEFORE POSTING**** Gaming General Info Sticky*****PLEASE READ***** so people would stop asking this question.
It doesn't work. -
I don't game on my laptop, so I have no reason to go into that sub-forum. I need the latest drivers for working with video and 3D visualisation.
Sorry.
How to update 8400m GS graphic driver on XPS1330?
