1) Start with one corner of the sticker and pick at it with your nail and nothing else (unless you know for a fact what you are using will not scratch your computer) until the corner is lifted high enough to grab onto and peel back. Note: this is very tough in some occasions so just slowly continue to work the sticker, I promise it will come up.
2) Once you can get a hold of the corner you picked up, pull back slowly to ensure you bring at least most of the adhesive up with the sticker.
3) After you get the sticker up there will probably be a little adhesive right where you attempted to pick at the corner or maybe somewhere else. If this is the case do not rub it or pick it or anything, just use the adhesive on the sticker you took off to "dab" up the rest of the adhesive on you're computer. (Almost like back in the day when it was clean-up time and there was playdoh every where, you'd gather it all in one ball.) And repeat for however many stickers you have.
If you follow these rules and are careful, you will not have any trouble getting the unsightly childish stickers off of your computer.
PM me if you have any questions or concerns!

Yeah I had to get rid of those stickers on my XPS M1530. They came off really easily actually even though I waited nearly 6 months till after I got it to remove them. I'd imagine it is easier to scratch the shiny XPS 1640 though.
-
I would have thought so too, but it's almost like a hard enamel on there and it doesn't *seem* to scratch too easily. I really hope that is the case and that I didn't just curse myself...
-
Got rid of the stickers on my M1530, it looks great! What do you guys think?
Need to decide now whether to go for a black keyboard or not... -
Looks AWESOME! I didn't know that the M1530s had that brushed metal look, I like it though! How do you like the fingerprint scanner? As far as weather or not to go with a black keyboard, do you mean the actual keys or the palmrest and are you talking about painting or buying?
-
Fingerprint reader is pretty good, I use it to logon to windows, also on a few websites with passwords that I do not auto save. Sometimes it can be slow to register but overall I like it! Impresses my mates too ha ha.
As far as the keyboard goes, you can fit a black Vostro keyboard directly to the M1530! It has exactly the same fittings, dimensions and keys etc. So if you imagine the keys all coloured black... Some people have already done it on this forum I will try to search and find it! -
Sick! I would do it for sure! It would be even cooler if you could do an illuminated keyboard... *awesome thoughts* haha. If you do decide to do this definitely let me know step by step how it goes!
-
Yeah I would love an illuminated keyboard, there was a massive thread on this subject, a few M1530 owners were going to try and botch in a backlit keyboard from a studio 15 but no joy... It would certainly put a cherry on top of this laptop it has been great so far!
Will let you know if I proceed with the black keyboard, might put the money to better use (i.e. car and flat) though lol. -
Haha, yeah that would be slightly more important than blowing money on aesthetics, I always go for functionality then looks, so far it's kept me out of trouble haha

Yeah every laptop looks so much cleaner without the stickers. I think more manufacturers should be like Apple and not include such ugly stickers on their laptops. What bothers me even more is when you see people leave on all the stickers that came on their PC from Best Buy (or other retail store) listing all the specs and features of the laptop for display in the store.
-
I actually like the stickers But only 2 the processor/platform one and the OS one. I wanna take the Vista one off and put the W7 on when it comes out.
-
Bassflow;
The main reasons I took my stickers off were the intel sticker was crooked and I'm upgrading to windows 7, so both of the stickers were worthless to me, however, now that they are off, I have to admit, my laptop looks very clean and business-like, even more so than before and I still recommend taking them off. This is all about personal preference though so do whatever you think you will like the best! How about some pictures of your rig? If you'd prefer, you can post them over here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=407381 -
I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! Apple is so clean and, as much as it pains me to say this, I wish I could have the best of both worlds, I want a kick a$$ high-def fast and affordable rig, but I want it to look like I mean business. None of this kiddy labeling and gizmos and gadgets all over the outside. Some of these expensive dells are just too fiddly. Look at the aston martin, or porsche. Both of these cars are smooth and simplistic yet praised for their looks and unique presence.
-
Yeah, I know. I got the same rig as you, besides the processor. Also I like the Centrino 2 sticker because it's yellow, haha yellow looks nice with black. And I know what you mean if I find anything wrong with my notebook, it's gone or replaced.
-
Microsoft uses awfully high quality glue.
The Intel sticker came off in about a minute, but I had to spend a good 15 minutes just getting a corner for the Vista sticker to come up. -
Haha, both of mine took about the same time but yes these stickers are really sticky and can be really hard to get up, but once you do it is so worth it. How about posting some pictures?
-
Sadly, my camera took a swim when I went on vacation in July and I haven't had the time to get another yet. At any rate, I have an M1330 so it looks pretty much the same as hooligan001's pictures.
-
Haha its all good! Those are nice laptops, how has you're experience been so far?
-
A love-hate relationship I guess. On one hand, I have to carry it all over the place so I appreciate the fact that it's lightweight and fully featured, unlike a netbook.
On the other hand, it suffers from the infamous Nvidia graphics problem and I've had to send it back to Dell to get it fixed. -
I hear all about the infamous nvidia problem but I've never really gotten a straight description as to what it is...
-
Basically the gist of it is that nvidia designed the cards poorly and then lied to OEMs about how much heat they generated.
Of course, the OEMs at the time didn't know any better, and simply designed their cooling solutions around the (fake) numbers nvidia gave them. As a result, a hell of a lot of laptops made by everyone from Apple to Dell to Sony got fried.
When I first got my laptop, it was completely silent. Now, several BIOS updates and a motherboard later, the fan spins 24/7.
Oh and nvidia never actually fixed the problem - just a couple days ago Engadget had an article about how nvidia just paid the OEMs an extra $110 million on top of last year's $150-200 million for repairs on this issue. -
Wow. Just when I thought dell was a pain in the ... haha. I used to HATE AMD. It was just one of those things, I don't know why I did, I just did. Nvidia just seemed like an aston martin while amd seemed like a gumpert... Haha sorry about my car comparisons, but after hearing about this, I've sort of lost my loyalty to nvidia, despite being forced to go with amd in my studio xps 1640, I think I'll stick with them...
-
thx for this guide, i finally removed this annoying vista sticker
-
If there's any glue left over on your palmrest, use a cloth and rubbing alcohol to get it out easily.
-
I found the best thing to get the last little tack and outline off was goo-gone. About 10 seconds and it was perfect, otherwise there was always a little outline that attracted dirt or felt sticky.
