In general how often do laptops break because of accidents, or hardware malfunction? I'm not that much of a klutz, but i'm still worried i might slip and land on my laptop.

Get a laptop case if you're worried of external damaging. I recommend a Zeroshock III.

The statistics are that something goes wrong in about 10% in the first year, 40% by the fourth year.

I'd say it depends on the build quality of the laptop and how well the owner treats the laptop.

I've come across quite a number of laptops in my work and what i've seen on the whole is before any internal part fails, instead an external part that we wouldn't normally pay much attention to, gives out. Such as power connector pin breaking off from the socket, ribbon cable of the LCD pannel breaking.

That said the first thing most likely to breakdown with a well treated and much loved laptop would be the hard drive or the DVD drive purely because they are mechanical.

LOL great pic. To answer the thread starters question it depends on how you take care of it. If you constantly dropping stuff on it or spilling stuff eventualy it will break.

    Insightful!

There's a huge difference between "Accidents" and "Hardware Malfunctions". They aren't even in the same category together.

Accidents could happen daily, or never at all.....it all depends on the individual and their surroundings.

Hardware issues do happen, however having said that, any major problems I've seen usually happen within the first 3 - 4 years, therefore making Complete Care worth it.

Accidents are due to humans and hardware malfunctions are due to overclocking softwares.

    Pets also cause accidents.

Wrong. *SOME* malfunctions are caused by overclocking hardware.

Not trying to generalize but most malfunctions that occur in a laptop inherently (e.g. not due to bumps and shocks such as hard drive damage) are due to the mainboard - usually some fault on the mainboard itself, and charging AC/DC circuitry are the most common culprits.

Ya, well when you state that ALL laptops break because of physical accidents.....thats about all anyone can say.
