    Hey guys, so I've seen so much haterism towards dell regarding their wifi card issue, people getting their orders cancelled, laptops taking 3 months+ to arrive etc, and that got me thinking.

    My order went without a hitch, as did getting a replacement for a reason that would be rejected by a lot of companies, and i was wondering if my experience with Dell was because i used dell.ca. My order was still taken by a guy in India, and my laptop still arrived via the US, but i got it right quick.

    So basically, I'm wanting to hear form other users in canada, how long did it take for your order to arrive from when it was shipped? Where in canada are you?

    Maybe this can paint be a clearer picture of if im just lucky, or if my case is indicative of US Dell vs Dell Canada.

    here is my info:

    Model info:
    Studio XPS 16 Notebook
    Merlot Red LTHR,INSP
    Intel CoreTM i7-820QM (1.73-3.06GHz 8M)
    4GB,DDR3,1333MHZ,2 DIMM
    256GB HIGH PERFORMANCE SSD
    BLURAY COMBO,INSP
    15.6 945p HD+ WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP
    ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB
    Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi MB
    INTEL WIFI LINK 5300 802.11AGN
    9-cell Battery
    WIN 7 HOME PREM, 64, ENG,S/XNB
    Windows 7 OS Label,CNB
    $2,598.62 incl. tax

    Ordered On: Nov 05 2009
    Estimated Arrival Date: Dec 07 2009
    Unit Shipping Date: Nov 15 2009
    Unit Arrival Date: Nov 20 2009

    also, this was an exchange, i ordered a Core2Duo a few weeks earlier, and then then saw the same unit, but with 500GB (up from 320) and i& CPU for 60$ more. i called, and complained, and they said to ship the old unit back, and order a new one, free of charge, and they will pay for all shipping. I actually kept the old one until the new one was shipped, my return expired, and they did a new one. not too shabby, ill buy dell again 100%

    Hey

    I'm in Canada too.
    Ordered Nov 17, says in production since day 1 with EDD of Dec 11.

    Got same configs as yours. I havent had any major problem with the delivery of my previous Dell laptops. It's always slow, but I feel like this one is a bit slower than usual.

    well, let me know if you get it on time, 24 days is a bit long, but not too bad for the beginning of the christmas season, if you get it. ^^

    I got my laptop as an exchange. It was here in my hands in 2 weeks (ordered Nov. 5, received Nov. 18). Many parts were replaced because they were either wrong or I haggled, such as:

    Screen: 1600x900 WLED -> 1920x1080 RGBLED
    RAM: 4 GB DDR3 -> 8 GB DDR3
    HDD: 500 GB 7200 RPM -> 256 GB SSD
    Wireless card: Dell -> Intel 5300 (personally replaced with my old laptop)
    Bluetooth: Added from my old laptop
    Processor: i7-720QM -> i7-820QM

    My configuration is in my signature and profile. The laptop I originally received had a lot of missing/wrong parts, but most of them were fixed either by a Dell tech or me.

    My online order status was not updated since it was first ordered, so I wouldn't trust that. Overall, 2 weeks is shorter than I expected for a laptop with such high-commodity parts and in high demand, however the fact that they don't update their online order status was depressing until I received my laptop.

    Interesting how they handle exchanges faster than new customer. Makes sense in a way.

    I just called and they told me the order was still in shape to be delivered on or before Dec 11th. We'll see!

    I ordered my xps 1645 laptop yesterday (Nov 30) from dell.ca. The status is in production but it has a estimated ship date and estimated delivery date of 12/25/09. Do my fellow Canadians find that dell overestimates or underestimates delivery dates? Given this is also the holidays I might have bit of delay.

    Got the laptop on Nov. 18.

    For the cancellation and reoder I was able to get the RGBLED for free + Win 7 instead of Vista.

    Hey guys in Canada. How long did it take for the dell systems to ship from the U.S.A (apparently Texas from a dell rep) to Canada after it was built.

    In order words once your laptops are finished with the production phase, how long did it take to get here once it was shipped. I live in Ontario btw.

    I have ordered a couple of laptops from Dell in the past, and they both were built and arrived in about 1 to 2 weeks at most.

    However my recent order doesn't appear to be going well. :( I ordered a Studio 15 on Nov 24 with an EDD of Dec 10. This is to be a present for my wife to replace the aging Latitude D800 she was using. I figured ordering it a month in advance would assure it would be here in time for Christmas...

    My order status is as follows:

    Nov 24: Order placed
    Nov 24: Order confirmed
    Nov 24: Order Processing ( In Production )
    Dec 3: Order Processing

    Even if it ships today it won't make it here for Dec 10th, so I decided to call Dell to see what's up and was told that my order wasn't even 'initiated' yet so it had not even been built! Apparently some parts are on backorder and my new EDD was January 8th!?!

    I'm waiting to see what happens when my first EDD is reached. If they send me an email quoting January 8th as the delivery date I'm going to cancel. 6 weeks is just garbage. That's far too long to wait for a barebones Studio 15.

    Get your act together Dell!!

    11 days for me.

    Habitually my laptops are shipped on Friday, they are in transit in USA for the week-end. On Monday they are in Toronto and leave Toronto on the evening to come to my business place early on tuesday morning. So habitually it's 4 days including week-end days on 95% of my orders.

    BUT, I don't know why for this one instead of going to Toronto my laptop transited by Calgary so on Friday my system was Shipped according to Dell. My System was in transit on USA for 5 days. Wednesday it was in Calgary. It took 6 days to transit from calgary to Toronto. Was in Toronto on the next monday and i received the laptop on tuesday. So for this one it took 11 days.

    Are you getting these status from dell.ca website? If so under order status did it say order processing or In production? It is strange that once i made my order on Nov 30th i checked my status 30 minutes later and it was already "In Production" according to dell.ca.

    I payed with visa so that might be a factor

    I paid with Visa and my Order status went from Order placed to 'In Production' within 30 minutes. It has neen stuck on 'In Production' ever since.

    My previous orders needed about 4-5 days once they were listed as shipped to be delivered, and this one still hasn't even been built according to the Rep I spoke with.

    I live on the west coast in Canada so I ordered from Canada Computers and had it overnighted (ordering out of province meant not paying provincial tax). Paid $1695 shipped to my door. I'm pretty happy with it, its a great deck.

    Well, I ordered mine on 12/2/2009 and got a EDD of 12/25/2009. Which is a lot quicker then i thought since i added one of those custom designs on the outside. Keeping my fingers crossed that it comes before Christmas! Anyone I have talked to in Canada has gotten their order before the EDD.

I called Purolator and they told me that I can expect my laptop to arrive Monday. Any chance that i'll get my laptop before this weekend on Friday? I live in Waterloo Ontario btw.

    Ordered 1645 on Oct. 11.
    Missed Nov 5 EDD.
    Dell cancels and reorders.
    Now I've missed the Dec. 7 EDD.

    I'm done with them. It's going back the second it arrives.

    I'm in the same boat as you are, ordered on the Nov 30th and EDD of Dec. 25. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the detailed order status as I've seen in a few threads?
    I hope it gets here quickly, I'm really excited for this great machine! Even with the few issues, although I think they have been exaggerated a tad (or at least I hope so).

    Got great news. My shipping status is changed to arrived in Toronto's depot. I called purolator and they told me to expect my shipment tomorrow from 8-5. Talk about fast shipment since it did go out tuesday morning.

    To Beconsiderate:
    I take it that you ordered under the same deal as me under dell's one day sale. You can check the order status through dell.ca under my account. If you haven't check thus far, it might be coming very soon. Mine is expected to be delivered tomorrow and yours could be the same :O

    I did go for the deal! Although I used the savings to upgrade a few things. What was your setup like? Keep us updated when you receive your laptop.
    I've checked the order status tonight (still in production), and set it up to receive an email when it ships. Unfortunately my sales rep. in India made a mistake on my account, so I can't sign in as of right now. I'm able to check the order status without an account however.

    I've never got a email even when my laptop was shipped. I just went with the most basic without the RBGLED so could possible explain the speed. Try calling dell to see your order status if you don't mind waiting on the telephone.

    Mine is on the local truck out for delivery today. Woo hoo :) 3 day shipping is pretty impressive. What's MORE impressive is that dell hit their estimated delivery date dead on even with a 5 day backorder on parts.

    EDD was tomorrow. Got an email today saying the usual. Order delayed, If your order has not shipped within 5 business days, we will provide you with an update. Otherwise, you will receive a notification when the order has shipped.

    I knew this was going to happen. I need this machine for January 11th for when my school starts. Let's see if they can make that happen...

    EDD = Estimated Delivery Date

    No I still have not gotten my laptop. I have an updated EDD of January 18th.

    The optimist in me sees it like this: CES is just around the corner (most likely before my ship date). So I am going to fully utilize the time I have with this laptop to stress this crap out of it and complain to dell about how they crippled it. On the last day I have to return it, I am most likely going to. Hopefully by then they have either a) refreshed the product lines or b) someone else puts out a better laptop with similar price and specs.

    After reading all the stories i'm freaking out, I ve being saving money for 6 months, to get this machine. !!!
    Do you think I can cancel now or wait to get the delay mail ?

    That is up to you. I've been battling with the decision to cancel or wait and send it back or keep it. I should have also mentioned that Dell is *supposedly* releasing a fix for some of the issues Jan. 11th.

    Depending on that, I MAY keep it if the fix works well.

    I guess it all depends on what you are using the notebook for. For myself, I plan on doing some light gaming, but with modern graphic intensive games, photo and video editing, and running lots of Virtual machines for school.

    since those activities are all very CPU or GPU intensive tasks it will be hard for me to accept a throttled laptop.

    I am very comfortable using the work arounds for the throttling that have have been posted here. However, part of me feels that I should not have to resort to doing so on a brand new machine.

    EDIT: Personally, if you aren't in a rush, i would wait til after the fix is released, check the forums and see what problems it fixes and what problems it makes worse (always a possibility).

    I've got you all beat, EDD of 22/2/2010!

    I'd cancel, but having seen the 1080p R+BG screen in person, I can honestly say it's the finest looking laptop screen I've ever seen. Blows away the HP DV7/DV8....

    Just a thought, Costco Canada had a few Studio17's 2 weeks ago.. if you don't care about the 1080p you can grab them up fast.

    I checked the one Costco in Ancaster to see if they had any in stock. They did not.
