I am thinking about getting the 8600, but want to know build quality of this, and reliabilty. How have these held up, are there any known problems? How well do the HD's and cd drives hold up?

I've had mine for just over a year and it's done pretty well without any problems. I think it's a decent desktop replacement as far as reliability goes. Just don't drop it because it uses a very cheap plastics.

I do think the 8600 is one of Dell's better Inspiron products, but if you are looking for something that has a sturdy build case wase, look elsewhere because the plastic they use is quite cheap.

HD and CD drives are really no different then other systems, and I've had no problems.

I wish they moved the tri-metal chassis into more inspirons than just the 5160. That M60 looks quite tastey.
