Hi everyone,
I'm considering the Dell Inspiron 6400 (Canada), and want some opinions on it first.
How well does the video card handle games and movies? I've gotten advice from people to get the ATI Radeon X1400 instead of nVidia 7300, even though its more expensive.
Also, I've noticed the users rate the Inspiron E1505 WAY higher than most Dell (if not MOST laptops) laptops! Over 90% recommendations!
So, yeah, what do you guys think of the Inspiron 6400 design, build, customer service, video card, etc.?
Thanks in advance!

its great....some people say dell's "build quality" (whatever that means) is crap, but I've had no problems with this laptop or any other dell systems i've bought...the x1400 is the way to go.

I have the E1505, and I love it. Get nothing less than the X1400 graphics card if you are going to do any gaming at all.
Also, I beleive it was PC World that always rates it as the best notebook. It's always in there article of "The Best Stuff".
I have had mine since April. Only problems with it was because of Sony o.0 -
i love my 6400. although i haven't used the customer service, as everything has been flawless. i find the battery compartment is cool to the touch, but the harddrive does get a little bit warm, but nothing uncomfortable. the heat is similar to a heating pad. but at low! haha

I just got an E1505 and I highly recomend it. Get the Core Duo, the GB RAM, and the X1400. Good stuff.

oooh man im getting so excited and i cant wait till mine comes in on sept 11th, man that seems so far away!!!

Best laptop for the money around. Sure, the quality isn't that of a thinkpad or asus but the price is certainly right. I own a e1505 and it's sturdy--for a plastic laptop. The x1400 is more powerful than the 7300, for less money. Make sure that you don't get fooled by dell's misleading marketing. More expensive doesn't always=better performance.

Thanks everyone for their responses.
But, just wondering, is the E1505/6400 light enough to carry around? (for university, work, etc.) -
well, most 15.4" screen laptops weigh about 6 lbs, and the 6400 is no different. so if thats too heavy for u, which i dont really think is because im going to have to carry it around too, then i suggest getting a 14.1" or whatever the next step down is.
-
My friend has I6400 w/ X1400 for a couple of months now and I haven't heard any complaints
as to its weight, if you get a computer backpack it should be fine. However, you're the only person who can tell if it's too heavy for you to carry around or not....
I'm ok with carrying my E1705 around, which others consider to be a monster and too heavy for that. But then again I'm 6'5" and weigh accordingly so extra 9lb are manageable. I also know some people who don't accept anything bigger than their Vaio with 12.1" LCD... -
Well, I think I can accept 6 lbs, after all I must be lugging 15 pounds of binders and stuff already...
-
btw, in case you're not sure, a laptop backpack is much better than a 'conventional' laptop bag (much better weight distribution and a lot more practical)
-
thx, ill keep that in mind, i got a free laptop backpack while i was away in singapore from my aunt who used to work for hp ^-^

GO FOR THE X1400! that more expesive 7300 is a joke! My 6400 is really fine aybe is not the finest looking notebook around, but you can't say it's ugly. Build quality is good for the most part too and you an't get a better performance/price relation anywhere.
Just take this advice from foosa: If yu're going to be taking with you most of the time get a backpack, I carry it in a convencional notebook bag and belive me, 6 lbs. doesn't look too much at the beginnig but after 15 min it anther story! ajajaj -
Just got a Inspirion 6400 2 days ago... so far so good. Only problems were the extras loaded by Dell and I dont really like the touch pad. Picture quality is pretty good, don't play any new games, the only one I tried was Warcraft 3 and no problems as expected. I got this because it seemed to offer more for my money in terms of speed/ram/video.

how much of a problem do the extra "junkware" cause on the computer?
how much space do they take up and what is the problem with them?
How's Inspiron 6400/E1505?
