    Vostro 1400
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5270 1.4ghz
    Windows Vista Premium
14.1" XGA (not a fan of glossy screens)
    2GB RAM
    120GB HDD
    128MB GeForce 8400M GS
    6-cell primary battery
    9-cell addt'l battery
1 Year on-site service, parts, labor
    Planted a Tree
    $728

Price seems pretty reasonable to me. Main thing I'm concerned with is the processor and warranty. I also assume that the two batteries are identical except for the size?

The only time I push the PC is with WoW, Opera, Trillian, Foobar, and one or two other apps open. Other than that I hardly put any stress on it, so I don't know how big of a deal the processor speed is.

I'd say that your processor is probably fine given your needs listed. I've got a single core 1.2GHz processor running at 800MHz that does most/all what I need (though I do not play games on it :p). You should be fine there.

Regarding the warranty: you can always upgrade/lengthen later if you have the cash (assuming money is a concern now). On-site service is definitely a plus.

Yeah, I want to keep the price reasonably low, and the warranty is what pushes it into the $700 range.

I'm thinking one year is good enough, since if anything goes wrong, it will probably be within that time span.. then again, I have no idea what the chance of anything breaking (that I couldn't fix) after the first month is.

my god, that is so much more affordable than the m1330....

o btw, lol, on topic: it seems well configured for that price :)

my m1330 would be around 1129 w/o tax (w/ student discount)

Price-wise, it's only another twenty bucks or so to get a separate 9-cell than it is to upgrade the 6-cell. This way I can use the 9 as my main, and end up with a $20 6-cell as my backup. Granted, it's another $20 I probably don't need to have on the price.

The great thing is that the Vostro I configured just has the standard discounts--no EPP, student discounts, or anything of the sort. :)
