Finally pulled the trigger tonight on a Dell Inspiron 1520. After fiddling around, I think this came out quite well. Opinions? Think I could have gotten any better?

Here's my guide for the coupons:
SAVE $200:: Visit http://www.Dell.com/epp/youreppsave . Sign up with an email account using either HOTMAIL or YAHOO. You can try others, but some that I tried (.edu, gmail, etc) did not work. Yahoo worked great. Once you sign up at this website, you will receive a $200 OFF $899 or higher Inspiron notebooks coupon code (1 time use). You will also need to use the link provided in this email to stack coupons.
SAVE 7% + 12% :: Choose a warranty bundle. I got the PC-Care Plus bundle and received 7% off my total system order. On top of that, EPP members receive 12% off systems priced $1600 and up with a 3/4 yr at-home service. These two percentages saved me $121.96 and $186.66 respectively.
SAVE 15% :: Need eBay for this one. There is a 15% EPP savings coupon floating around on eBay. I bought the coupon for $1.49. It saved me $342.75.
SAVE 4% :: Sign up for a Dell preferred account if you don't have one. On the payment options screen, choose to pay by credit card/debit card (dont pick DPA!). On that screen, it will pop up a message saying WAIT WE'LL SAVE YOU 4% IF YOU USE DPA. Go for it.
The $200 wasn't originally stacking for me. What you NEED (I'm pretty sure NEED) to do is go to the Dell website via the link provided in the email you received w/the $200 off coupon. Once you click it, you must provide your EPP member id. For me, this was "BS" followed by 8 digits.
In case you are wondering which 1520 "base" model I used...I used the one all the way on the right when you are given options for the 1520/1521.
-
damn u worked for them or what? why did u get so much discounts? i tried that and the rep was like oh u cant use ur $25 off on this purchase since we applied the special promotion of $168 to ur purchase. wtf!?!
-
WTF, where did that 15% come from? I know the 7% is for the warranty, and the 12% off is the EPP discount, and the $200 off is a coupon, and the 4% for DPA...but where did this 15% come from?!?
-
-
the 15% came from good ole ebay... Its a EPP discount that people got through the mail I guess and are selling the coupons on ebay.
-
-
Cool, just bought a 15% off coupon, will have to try to use that too.
How do you get the 4% off using DPA? Is there a way to get that when ordering online, or do you have to do it over the phone? -
-
Yeah, I already have a DPA account, but I didn't realize that's what I'd need to do to get them to ask me to use it.
Is there any way to cancel an order online, or do I need to wait to call them in the morning during business hours?
-Zadillo -
i am really hesitant in believing dell would let you stack so many coupons and especially off ebay, i have no found one coupon that is stackable
-
-
hm but how did you get the full 12% off when you only had a 1555 subtotal?
-
Thanks for the tip pragun. I posted in my own thread what I ended up configuring (I went with just a 2.0GHz CPU instead of 2.2GHz):
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2138487&postcount=16
Actually, comparing the two, it looks like you got a slightly lower price, but with DellCare Plus instead of Premium, but it let you get the faster CPU as well...... -
and i just checked online, the 15% does not stack with the 200 dollar off coupon. i read the fine print and that it stacks with other promotions, but not with other coupons.
-
you knwo what clal me dumb, i didnt' go through process
-
FrozenDarkness, I don't know, it's letting me stack it.
I just configured something almost identically to pragun, and have come up with a final price of $1454.81 (I went back to DellCare Plus, and went with the 2.2 GHz CPU and 160GB 7200RPM drive).
-Zadillo -
-
All told all the discounts and coupons add up for me to $924.48 off. Hard to complain with that. -
-
Actually, I just noticed that if I do drop down to a 2.0GHz C2D and a 5400RPM 160GB drive, my total cost goes down to $1319 total, including tax. I think I might just go ahead and do that (I don't think I really need the slightly faster CPU or hard drive, frankly).
-
-
Well, it seems like I missed my window of opportunity (couldn't cancel my existing order until today).
It seems like Dell has corrected that $200 off coupon so it no longer stacks with the 15% off coupon.
So I can still get a fairly good deal...... basically an identical config to what you have, except for a 2.0GHz C2D instead of 2.2GHz C2D for a total of $1462 including tax. -
Dangit! Last night I had the $200 coupon stacking with the $168 off and it probably would have stacked with the 15%.
-
i think the $200 replaced the $168 off for me
edit: oh..sucks. didn't read zadillo's post. sorry guys =( -
-Zadillo -
I think someone's order is going to be cancelled...
-
How did this thing get to be $2,285 in the first place? seems awfully expensive... At the price you got.. a decent deal.
-
-
-
wow i bought an extra battery and next day delivery and it's 100 bucks more expensive than yours pragun
-
Darn it, I just got an eBay coupon and they have it so you can't stack it!
Darn it! -
I was about to pay 20 bucks to transfer 15 dollard to my paypal from my webmoney account to get a couple of 3-5-dollar coupons,
I can't believe pragun got this $2,285.00 laptop for $1435...
how can dell let something like that happen? If it's true - I'm jealous, I really am !
Stupid coupons... -
Here's the deal.
I'm about to buy a 15% off coupon on ebay for 5 bucks. Will it stack with a $300-off coupon which made my $1600-inspiron 1520 laptop only $1300?
And is it worth it?
Thank you. -
i don't think it will stack, sorry.
and..is what worth it? a $1300 laptop? what are the specs? -
I haven't found any other coupons the 15% off coupon stacks with.
Is the $300 off coupon something normal, or is it a personal coupon? If it is a public coupon, I'd be glad to check for you to see if it stacks with the 15% or not.
Btw, I got my 15% off coupon for $1.50. No reason to pay $5 for it. -
I just noticed...it looks like the $300 off coupon is DHS...won't stack with EPP no matter what...
just saw it here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=140586
edit: I too got the coupon for $1.49...but the seller changed his price to $3.89 the next day =P -
It is this one, G01JG242730SDT
can you PLEASE check if it will stack with a 15%-off coupon?
Thank you very much. -
-
I guess you saved me $5 - I was about to pay.
And try not to put abbreviations (that are not obvious), I thought DHS means "Department of Homeland Security" -
lol i guess dhs is that too, but if you look in the URLs of things, dell abbreviates it dhs, so that's where i was coming from =). anyway glad i could help.
-
Yeah, I wasted $1.04!!!! For my 15% off coupon!
-
they dont' stack it, but call in and they will!
-
-
No they won't...no way...
-
Will they?
-
if you really want to know...you can spend $5. after all, $5 is not a big loss when you're spending over $1000 for a notebook, anyway.
-
Ok. I will,
But can you tell me if you would risk it by looking at the item's title:
" Dell EPP 15% off $899 Coupon Code Inspiron + STACKABLE"?
PS: I'm trying to stack it with 1520 with a $300 coupon.
Thanks, -
15% doesn't stack with any other coupons. Now calling them and telling them to stack it, I am not sure about. Has anybody tried doing that? Any success?
-
You need to pay attention here, this question has been answered many times. You CANNOT stack the 15% with the $300 coupon, because the 15% you even stated yourself is Dell EPP. Look at the $300 off of $1199 is for Dell Home. Those are different divisions, so it's impossible to stack. You can only stack 15% with certain other EPP coupons, but there are no other current EPP coupons that are stackable. You MAY be able to call and get them to stack, but they shouldn't...you're already getting a great buy, free 160GB HDD, free 2GB of RAM, at a minimum of 20% off...

How's this order? :D
