I was so excited to get it in the mail in less than a week after ordering it. I put XP on it the same day I got it. It's only been 2-3 days since I had it when I realized that the speakers are messed up!! Whenever I listen to music or try to watch a movie (no matter what program I use) the speakers on the laptop sound crackly making them impossible to use unless they're on a very low setting. I went on the dell tech support thing a few times but they weren't able to fix the issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

I wonder if it isn't related to your updating to XP?

My week old m1330 has worked without problems. I use external speakers, but the built in speakers, while not very loud, do work.

Not sure what to suggest, except that if you could put Vista back on it and see if the speakers then work fine, you'll know it's a compatability problem with XP.

I imagine it's not that easy to reinstall Vista.

Keep in mind, I don't think Dell endorses, or states that the m1330 will work with XP, so I'm not sure you can really blame Dell if issues arise.

Hope you get it worked out.

If you want to troubleshoot install Vista and the drivers to see if the speakers act the same. But definitely get on the phone and tell them to fix it or send you a new machine.

Do you still have Media Direct on there? You should test your sound there.

Are all your XP drivers up-to-date? If you haven't already checked, I think you probably should before reinstalling Vista.

    Thanks guys.

Looks like all of my XP drivers are up to date. Could my problem be the same problem stated here? In that case it looks like I have the 1395 WLAN minicard which doesn't have the same options. When I did disable them, the same problem persisted.

Also, the problem doesn't seem to occur with headphones. It seems mostly crackly on the left laptop speaker. Could my brand new laptop have blown speakers?

md02geist- why would you want a broken laptop?

Usually people have more trouble with crackle in the headphones than with the speakers. It sounds to me like you have a bad speaker.

So I reverted back to Vista. The sound still occurs and not only that there is a high pitched whistling! Oh my god...

I would give them a call since it seems like your speakers may be faulty.

I finally got through to someone who has the power to help me >_>

So they're setting up an exchange right now because it's under 21 days. Yay. I get to keep the laptop until the new one comes in so hopefully it wont take too long.

So I can send it back to Dell and they can fix it for free. :)
