    The key on the lower left hand side of the keyboard, next to the Windows and Ctrl key. Hold that and hit the up arrow a couple of times.

    the FN key stands for FUNCTION. Notice that the FN is in BLUE text on the key. Notice there are other keys on the keyboard with BLUE text as well. When you hold the FN key and press another BLUE TEXT key, your laptop will perform whatever task it is listed on the 2nd BLUE TEXT key.

    I've noticed one thing. While most of the functions work with the FN key without additional software, some don't. Good example is the battery indicator or FN + F3. The software that you need is Dell's quickset which is installed on all Inspiron systems. If you reformat, you can find this program on their drivers/downloads page.
