I am looking at the Vostro line and THEY ARE HOT!!

Are they better? Should I cancel my Inspiron and get this instead?

Well, what about it makes you want it over the Inspirons?

    Any particular spec or feature?

Any particular build or design feature?

    The warranty?

Well, NO BLOATWARE!! YES!! You can choose to not have it partitioned which is a very good option. Also, I save a little more and my shipping date can possibly be sooner. Also, it's black.

From what I could tell the vostro lineup is different from the 1520 (apart from color and less bloatware) in the fact that it (on the 1520 at least) seems to be that the 8600M gt has DDR2 memory vs. the DDR3 on the inspiron models. This will result in reduced gaming performance when applying high res textures and things such as AA which are bandwidth intensive. If that is no concern I cannot see a reason no to choose the Vostro over the inspiron

How do you know that? What are your sources? If that's true, then I am sticking to my Inspiron.

hey, guys... I suggest you'll head over to the "sweet..." thread and check out their discussion on the "ddr2" ram of the 8600gt on the inspiron 1520

The vostros are supposed to be nothing else but full black inspirons

True: Vostro is cheaper, but have you guys found any coupons for it? Inspiron actually turns out to be cheaper with multiple discounts/coupons.

When purchasing the Vostro line, you're backed with better business support compared to home consumer support. Secondly, the Vostro has magnesium alloy external compared to inspirons hard case plastic.

bloatware should not be considered when purchasing a notebook. You should reformat anyway to install what you need only to reduce the number of processes running in the background.

So it has the same build quality as the XPS.... Also is the 1.5 good enough or should a upgrade to the 1.8 be preferred?

The magnesium sounds much nicer.......I shuddered thinking about setting my wrists on that cheap silver plastic on the Inspiron day in and day out.

The one big question remaining is the keyboard. Is it a black painted equivolent to the Inspiron or better? I'm willing to wait to find out and that's arguably the most important feature of a notebook.

no where on Dell.com does Dell claim the inspiron is made from magnesium alloy. It's plastic.

I do not think there is any difference in build, maybe just a different finish. The dell site gives the same exact dimensions and weight for the inspiron as the comparable vortro model.

I'm thinking I should change my order; how easy is it? My current order is in my signature, and the total is $838.00 weres with this, I can get a better (?) one for about..$100 cheaper. Do they check if you have a business when you purchase?

    http://www.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/inspnnb?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

click on "express yourself" in the flash thing. and click on premium finish.
it states inspirion 1520 has "durable magnesium alloy casing for satin smooth feel....etc etc

    so is the vostro build any better? ahh, so many questions ><;

I'm quite sure you can't beat Vostro's price, it'll be around mid 800s for a 1.8 Core 2 Duo with 1Gb ram, and a 8600 GT, there is no way in hell you'll get that price for an inspiron 1520.
