    It's probably SATA.

Look up the model number of the existing HDD in Device Manager then get Google to find out the details.

Is there anything higher than 500gb for laptops?

At the moment, no. :) But don't mind if I may ask, why do you need so much space on a single harddrive? It's best to get an external drive in my humble opinion. Just remember to backup your stuff regularly.

I am the type that likes to have 1 large one also . . . Until I get a "station" set up, external is almost more of a nuisance. I say, spend 100 bucks and get the Samsung M series 320 Gb. That would be my current choice. Lots of space, and very fast. Money well spent.

Hold on, isn't the Hitachi 500gb drive a little thicker than the standard 2.5" drives? Do a little more research on that model and if it says that its thickness is 12.5mm, then it won't fit in you 1520.

EDIT: My suspicions have been confirmed, the last spec on that page is that the form factor is 12.5mm, this drive will *not* fit in your 1520.

EDIT2: This is the drive that you need: http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-500G-50...yZ111503QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem . It's more expensive, but that's because in order to fit 500gb in a thinner drive, Samsung had to fit everything on two platters instead of three.
