I am going to cancel my Dell Computer. I am sick of their service. I wasted so much time on the phone with them. I am sick of Dell's bull****. My upgraded shipping was ground shipping; They don't honor what they say. I can't deal with a company with such bad practices. I honestly would rather pay extra money for a not as good computer for a grade A service.

    Lesson learned, again.
You get what you pay for. I should of trusted all those bad reviews that Dell recieved on PriceGrabber.com. I would of saved myself a lot of time, but I thought I could be one of those people that this won't happen to.

Their laptops might be good, but their service sure isn't.

Thats a main reason I decided not to go with the XPS 1330. A great notebook, but the salespeople wouldn't work with me on the price and tried to confuse me with tons of numbers and nonsensical information. I called up HP Small Business and ordered my 6910p in about 20minutes for $500+ less than the 1330.

i did the same, they changed my order and pushed back the date without my knowledge - ordered the MUCH more powerful Asus C90s, and using it now and wow, 10x faster than any santa rosa laptop i have seen and MUCH cheaper

Aw. I'm sorry you got such bad service from Dell. I am lucky to have a very good customer service dude who gave me his direct line so I only call him when I have any questions. (I'm from Australia)

I did however had 2 bad phone calls with the other Dell people while trying to get some information from them which I never received an answer for. The first guy hung up on me!

Hope you find a good laptop with good service backing it up. :)

Yep, Dell's service is why I canceled my 1330, and went and got a MBP. So glad I decided to switch to Apple.

I have been on hold with Dell and estimated 2 hours. I am really getting tired of their lack of service. They really need to utilize a better call waiting system. Number one it should tell the customer if the office is even open. Then they should say how many callers are in front of you. And lastly, they should get more help. Especially when they start 2 brand new lines of popular laptops.

When I call tomorrow, I am going to speak immediately to the supervisor. If they have one.

    That's too bad.

I have nothing but positive service from Dell with the purchase of my 1520. There wasn't a single hiccup for me.

I hope you have better luck with another company.

at least this is how i see it, who cares if they have poor customer service, in my 10 year history with various dell computers I only called customer service twice, once to get a pricematch and another time to cancel an order.
in my experience Dell is the only major computer assembler with prices approaching self-assembly costs.

I wish I could use the c90s, but i just needed more battery life. :(
I have had mixed experience with them so far, everyone is nice, but sometimes the english is poor, and sometimes they don't deliver. But sometimes they do, and sometimes their English is better than mine. :)

I can absolutely understand why you would be upset, but I do think dell as a whole is starting to turn around, STARTING. But when you get one of those people that has poor English and doesn't return emails, it is terrible.

Edit: We'll see whether or not they deliver on their promises of money back or not(for me).

i like india customer support not because i think they are the best, because i know they are cheap for Dell. in my reasoning cheaper customer service cost= cheaper computers, and cheaper comptuers= happier me! since i don't call customer service anyways.

Ditto here. My customer service experience was nothing short of abysmal, spending countless hours trying to get everything right, undoing miscommunications from Reps who simply didn't know what they were talking about, etc.

Price concessions (got a fastastic deal IMO) and other freebies (upgrades, bag, free shipping, etc) just fell short when you are just trying to get questions answered correctly and have items shipped as promised. At one point I told them to keep the >bleeping< price concession and ship me my dang remote cuz I needed it for presentations.

Things really turned around when I was contacted by a whole new person who has been just fantastic. Unlike others I had dealt with before who literally gave me a different answer everytime I asked them something, this guy was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, fixed my order and proactively CALLS ME on a regular basis (called me about half an hr as a matter of fact!) just to make sure I'm all set and have what I need. This in no way eliminates my frustratiion having to go through all the time and stress up to that point... but my 1720 came and has worked flawlessly (so far!). Guess I am lucky because as opposed to what I've read here, screen color and clarity are great and the overall system has a solid build and is FAST.

Was wondering how much of a nightmare setting up a wireless network would be (have a couple Dell's with different OS's). Wondered if the Dell wireless card would turn out to be subpar... I tackled that project over the weekend and it all came together great- I'm typing this message wirelessly on my 1720 and am just giddy I'm so happy not to be tied to my desk anymore!

Been a long road with alot of unneeded frustration, but I'm happy that in the net, I got a kick-ass system.

Honestly there is no way of telling how dell's customer service will progress, we just have to wait and see, probably more waiting than we would want, but it is dell, and it is a great system. No complaints here.

For the desktop sector sure, but in a laptop, that comparison isn't as effective, it is just who gives you more for your money since VERY few people have the skill to assemble their own laptop.

well yeah, its just used as a comparison. eg. my Vostro 1400. CPU cost: around $100-150 to buy,
    GPU cost: $100
    RAM: 50-70
    HD: 120-150
    screen: 100-120
    Chasis, battery etc: 150

so adds up pretty much exactly to my laptops cost, so in my eyes its a good deal.

I spent $1700 CAD on the MBP (sold the free IPOD), and got a laptop with an amazing screen, good hardware, great battery life, ability to run OSX and Windows, and great support.

Now compared to the 2000+ dollars I was going to spend on the 1330, which I still wouldn't have and probably wouldn't have for another month or more, I think I came out of top. Feel free to keep on hating on Macs though, just remember to say Hi to Rajev Abul for me when you need to get some support from Dell. :)

well M1330 is not a competitor to the MBP, the Vostro 1500 or Inspiron 1520 is. A simiarly speced Vostro 1500 or 1520 is easily 600 dollars cheaper than a MBP, sometimes almost $1000 cheaper.

I am very curious how do you people use your computers? I've been a pretty heavy computer user for at least a decade already and the only real hardware issue I ever had was an overworked PSU that failed after 3 years of use. I don't call Dell and Dell don't call me,,, ok actually Dell do call me, they want to sell me extended warranty to which i just laughed and politely said no way

My laptop came with 3 years of free accidental NBD warranty service. How much would you have to pay to receive that on your Apple? $300? $400? $500? $1000?
Answer: $1700 CAD because Apple does not offer accidental coverage or NBD warranties. I will stick with my Indian customer support and FREE superior warranty. :)

Would I have spent 2100+ on a MBP? Hell no. With the student discount, and the free IPOD it brings it down to a good price. In Canada, a well set-up Inspiron, would cost me close to what my MBP cost. Except it would be bulky, have worse battery life, and no LED screen.

If you are in the States then Dells with their coupons aren't so bad, but up here in Canada, Dell gives us crap prices, but we still have to suffer the bad support as well.

Just doesn't seem worth it to me. To each is own as they say. :)

I'm not sure how you managed to get the MBP for $1700, unless you made a hefty profit selling the iPod.

$1999 for base mode MBP with the student discount
    + $229 for iPod nano
    *1.14 for taxes
    = $2539.92

    - $229 for the rebate
    = $2310.92

So you sold the iPod for... what... $600?

Trust me, I considered this option before going for the M1330.

yeah thats probalby true, i looked at Dell europe they have some horrible prices.
in the states a similarly equiped Inspiron/Vostro is easily 600 dollars cheaper than the MBP.

why do you ppl cancel a M1330 and get a MBP?
the M1330 have a huge price premium due to its small size, then boom you went and ordered a 15inch(i hope) MBP. If size is not a issue for you in the first place, why order M1330?

I thought about buying a MacBook Pro, but it had to fatal flaws.
    1. Low resolution.
    2. Far too expensive.

I like the 5.4 pound starting weight and LED display, but I cannot stand the price or the WXGA+ resolution.

:D That comment is gold right there!

Speaking of putting up with BS to get a good product/price... I just received another Rogers Canada bill (phone, internet and TV) and like last month, they screwed me on discounts, etc.

So... I have to call them again and take more time away from my day to correct this problem.

Should I be pissed? Of course. Am I as pissed as I should be? Nope.

I would rather put up with this little headache than use my previous Bell Canada phone and internet service for one second!

At the end of the day, if you get a good product at a good price, it might just be worth the little bit of customer service issues Dell provides (not to say that I've had a negative experience with them yet). :)

On the other hand, you have to deal with Rogers' absolutely atrocious online self service. I was actually not able to pay my bill online after more than a week of trying every single day. But that's another story.

My D630 easily gets over 5 hours with wireless on and ambient light sensor on. I am curious if it will get over 6 hours if I turn the wireless off. It does drop when I play Half Life 2.

What size battery are you using though, my guess would be a 9 cell. Weight was a big concern for me, Inspirons with 9 cell battery aren't the lightest laptop out there. I know, my best friend has one and I wouldn't want to lug that thing around with me all day.

Also, does your 1501 had a dedicated 8600 GT in it? I was pretty sure you couldn't get them with a dedicated graphics card. I could be wrong though.

The fact is that this sort of thing isn't limited to Dell. I was flat out lied to by a Lenovo 'second-tier' support guy and then completely ignored by him and my original salesperson all because I complained when my T61 order got pushed back twice. And when I finally tried to cancel my order, it took them 1 full week with me calling daily to cancel it before they finally did. I mean c'mon, all of these laptop manufacturers (with the possible exception of Asus) are nothing more than supply chain companies, and if they can't manage their own damn supply chain then I have no business buying a notebook from them.

With Dell, I only recently placed my order so I can't say how it will play out, but in the past Dell has always delivered what and when they say. I'm sorry the OP had a bad experience, but I'm still looking on the bright side for Dell.
