However, they said you can only replace it with another AUO screen, I wanted to argue for another brand. They just kept saying no and they said they'll send someone out with an AUO screen to swap it with. I'm worried that the new screen might be equally worse. I think they got AUO from my um, product number? do you think i should give them someone else's, maybe they'll fall for it.

Well, if they'll only replace it with the AUO screen, try it and if it's the same problem, at least the next time you'll be able to say, 'look, the AUO screen is the problem. Give me something else.'

I think for now, they can only give you the same part number as they don't know whether it's the sample or an intrinsic property of the AUO display.

What Dell tells you is that they can only replace it with an AUO display, but that is not always true. They will put an order for an AUO display, but the replacement part depot can ship out an equivalent replacement in a different brand. So far, I have gone through 3 display replacements in different computers and I have gotten 1 LG and 2 Samsungs. I think those are the 2 major display brands that they stock locally in the US as replacement parts. However, you can't specify to have those brands though, it is up to the brand of equivalent display they have at the depot at the time of shipment.

Isn't AUO just the finish they put on the screen? This means that you will get this with any brand. Also the graininess on my screen is minimal, and doesn't affect anything on my screen, hopefully they just had a bad application for you, and the next one will be better. :(

AUO is the company that makes some of the LCD panels. Chi Mei is the other company that is supposedly making these panels.

What's a better LCD brand that the 1520 is using? I know when I got my e1505 last year it was LG.

Whatever happened to Samsung panels? Those were always great in MANY Dell notebooks. I wouldn't want any AUO panel.

See if you can get a matte screen at a higher resolution. From what I've read it's the glossy screen coating that's causing all the complaints.
