I put a cd in the drive, and it does nothing. So I open the computer folder and double click on the DVD drive that shows and it tells me to insert a disc and ejects the disc that is already in. I have tried several cds and the same thing keeps happening. Whats going on, am I just missing something or is my computer messed up?

    Thanks.

you might try uninstalling the driver, rebooting and see if that helps.......

That's what I would do. Also you could try re-seating the module.

    ok

go to Start, "Control panel", on the left click on "classic" view, click on "device manager", click on DVD/CD Rom, expand that, click uninstall, when it asks -say yes
then close that, reboot and it will auto install the best driver it can find in your system

I just uninstalled the driver, did a reboot, and the computer reinstalled the driver and now the drive works! :D

I'm guessing this is just one more driver issue to add to the list of m1330 driver issues:
usb driver issues, bluetooth driver issues, etc.

    support.dell.com

Go to drivers and downloads and choose your model, then download the sound driver, and run it.

So i downloaded the driver on the dell website and the one from the Creative website that was specified for my soundcard.

But, i'm still getting no sound from the speakers...

    Any more ideas?

Maybe i should just try doing a clean install of the software?

    nope.

But I'm in an email discussion with some Creative tech support, hopefully he/she will be abe to help me.

But feel free to keep offering advice in case they can't help me. I may just have to send back the sound card.

the two audio jacks on the front of the laptop work just fine. But the one on the souncard does nothing (although there is a red light shining out of it if that means anything). But it seems pointless to have the sound card if i can't even use it, especially since it was an extr 70 something dollars.

    thanks

So the audio jacks do work, but the speakers don't? It sounds like the speakers are the problem. Or are you saying that you have a separate audio jack for this soundcard? Do you ever get any sound at all? I'm really confused.

My 1330 does the same as well... I insert the CD, it does nothing, then I click on the drive and it spits it out... after 5-6 tries I get finally it to work... Weird...

Ok, let me recap the problem.

I purchased the Createive Soundblaster "X-Fi Extreme Audio Notebook" soundcard that was one of the options when i purchased my m1330. The soundcard has its own audio jack in addition to the two audio jack on the front of the laptop.

Now, the two audiojacks on the front of the laptop that came with the computer work just fine (except for some very annoying background noise).

However, the audio jack on the sound card (which needs to work in order for me to make any use out of the sound card) does absolutely nothing other than amplify the sounds of my laptop's processor through my bose speakers. Its as if the laptop is not recognizing that I have any speakers attached since it only plays the music through the built-in laptop speakers.

No matter what i plug into the soundcard's audio jack, no music or any real sound comes out of it. I have tried installing every driver available and have done a clean install. None of which worked.

When i first installed the soundcard i worked just fine. Now it does nothing.

I hope that cleared up what my problem is and hopefully someone will be able to help me.

Ah. I get it. Was there anything that you can think of that could have caused it to stop working? What do you have as far as Sound options in the Control Panel? A control panel for this sound card? Devices listed?

ok, so I completely uninstalled the soundcard and all applications associated with it.

Now my built-in laptop speakers aren't playing any sound.

I think the problem is that my comuter isn't trying to play the music on the correct device. Currently it shows me as having two options to play music through when i go into he control panel. These two options are "Speakers/Headphones" and "HDMI". When i play music, it shows the sound bars next to the HDMI section moving up and down. However when i click to use the Speakrs/Headphones as default, it continues playing through the HDMI. How do I get it to switch over to playing through the Speakers/Headphones. If i can solve this problem i think i will be able to solve the sound card problem.

Thanks for the help and the quick responses pixelot

ok i got my built-in laptop speakers working again. I think i've figured out what i need to do to get the soundcard working properly.

But really don't have any more time to waste on this right now so it'll have to wait until tommorow or later on this week.

Thanks for the help pixelot, i'll let you know how it goes when i try again.
