    Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Latitude D600 and the warranty is now expired. Few days ago, after running out of battery, I plugged the charger in but the laptop did not boot even though the green light in the charger was on! I though the charger had problem and I borrowed my friend's D600. But when I plugged in my charger to his laptop, his laptop was charged, and when I plugged his charger to mine, mine did not get charged. So do you guys know what happened to my laptop? i cant use the laptop anymore... thanks a lot!!!

    Hmm. got questions for you?
    1. Is there a battery in your laptop?
    2. Is the battery Dead or just needs a recharge?
    3. put your battery in his laptop and charge it, if it is the same battery then place it in your laptop to see if your laptop will work on battery power? Even if battery is dead as long as it is connected to your laptop it should run on AC power.
    4. If not it may be that your power inlet is damaged or worse the whole motherboard is fried I had this happen before. Let me know how it goes?

Ok. Your description is a little vague. Did your notebook die completely while running on battery? When you plug the charger in to your computer, does the charging light on the notebook come on? Do you know if your battery is charged? There is usually a button on the battery itself to see how much.

Does anything happen when you hit the power button?

Try taking the battery out, plugging a charger into the computer, then trying to boot. Give more specifics.

Thanks! I had battery on my laptop and it's not dead, it just needs a recharge.

This happened when I ran out of battery, the laptop battery meter informed me that I had only few % left (my battery could only last for 1 hour before the incident though, it is old), then it went to hibernate itself.

Now, when I plug in the charger, the green light on the charger is on, but the charging light on my laptop is not on. Sometimes the charging light on my notebook blinks orange when I try to adjust the charger cord to fit in the power port. And when I hit the power button, it actually boots and the screen says "battery is critically low" and then goes off again.

I'll try to do as you guys said and see what's gonna happen next. Thanks so much!

This sounds like the connector is busted if it starts charging when you move it around. It would be a really expensive fix because my understanding is that that piece is connected to the motherboard directly. Unless, you can find a sweet spot where it will charge.

On my old one I had to press the cord down close the spot where it connected or else the battery wouldn't charge. The computer would power from the adapter... it just wouldn't charge.

Should I buy some kind of dock to hold the cord? Do you guys recommend that? Yet I dont know which kind to try though.

The docks for the e1705 are basically just port replicators and not actual docks. They connect through USB so they won't be able to power the notebook. So even if you get a dock/port replicator the cord you have to be plugged directly into the computer.

It sounds like you might just have to look into getting it replaced through out of warranty support and the cost involved.
