    Ok. Hopefully someone can answer this question. I have used the vista computer manager to delete the dell recovery partition. Now, I don't want to do a clean install! Is there any way I can merge the now 10 GB of unallocated space into the OS partition? For reference, my partitions look like (in order);

    1) 110 MB EISA partition
    2) 10 GB unallocated partition
    3) OS C: 136.4 GB NTFS partition
    4) 2.5 media direct partition

    Thanks for your help. Geeks unite!

    I don't believe so, partition magic -may- work but as I recall those partitions aren't next to one another on the HD. I did the same thing, and just shoved Ubuntu onto the empty space (hero cookie to anyone who can get my wireless working in Ubuntu).

    Yes quite easily, just go to Disk Management, and right-click on your OS partition, and extend it the amount of the unallocated partition. They do have to be right next to each other though IIRC.

    for wireless in Ubuntu I have the same problem, I've determined mine doesn't work because no support of WPA encryption. Look up WPA_Suppliment see if you can get that working and let me know, I can't get it to work for me.

    So far I've had the most luck with that, but I think I need to reinstall Ubuntu and start over to get it working correctly. :(

    OK. So, I tried the expand thing. Apparently, vista wants the partition to be to the RIGHT of the OS partition to expand it. There is no option to expand the OS partition in vista computer manager... hhhmmm... Oh, and WAAAHHH!!! hehe.

    Any other ideas?

    Using ndiswrapper I have got wireless working (I think, the light is on in Kubuntu) . It won't connect to my network due to my using WPA. But I've done essentially what the forum says to do.

    As for the unable to merge, thats kind of funny. When I did it, it was the mediadirect that I merged, so it was on the right. Apparently you have to move the whole partition and then extend the partition to take up the allocated space. You should be able to do that with partition magic, though I would be prepared for the slight chance that it could cause windows to become unbootable and require a reinstall.

    they do. they also put a 10 Gigabyte 'restore' partition on your hard drive. i don't want to waste 10 Gigs on my hard drive for dell crap. especially when they, redundantly, give you a restore cd as well!
