Well my Vostro 1400 was supposed to be around $620, and I was charged, and according to Chase's Online system, the charge went through fully.
Check today, and its gone, no charge, no record of the purchase on Chase's website. Did I just score a free laptop, or is this normal?

Dell puts $620 on hold on your credit card and charges you once the item is shipped. They want to make sure the card goes through so they use the hold. That could be the reasoning
-
Either that or they canceled your order.

Dell cannot charge your card until the laptop ships. Either it was a hold as bhav2ki suggested, or Dell screwed up and accidentally charged your card and then reversed the charge. You can contact Chase to find out the exact reason.

When I placed my order for my Vostro 1500 there was a claim for the amount of the laptop showing on my account. A few days later the hold was gone and showed the full amount still available to me. I called Dell and the order was still in production, had not been canceled. The day they actually shipped my order in the US they took the funds from account. I'd say the first was to check the funds were available but my credit union will only allow a hold for a certain amount of time imho. Also, my understanding is Dell actually charges only after the unit has shipped.

don't get your hopes up. I've ordered many notebooks from Dell in the past and that is how all of their charges appear. They're not legally allowed to charge you until the notebook ships.
Check a few days after you receive your notebook, you should find the charge back on there. -
Ya, my card didn't get charged until two days after it arrived.
-
yea thats the same thing that happened with me... I had the hold placed on my credit card but it disappeared a couple days ago. But the weird thing is I bought a printer with it too and there was a hold put on my credit card for the printer but I was fully charged when it shipped so it never disappeared. You would think they would keep the hold on then charge you.
Oh I might add my order has already been shipped but there is not charge on my credit card. -
When your dell ships cancel your card!
tee hee~!
I kid, I kid!! -
It will show up in a couple of days and if it doesn't they have 1 year to charge you
-
Rest assured Dell will make sure they get their money for any system they ship to you
-
Well I always can dream of a free laptop
-
Afaik, Dell does charge the day it ships, but the charge does not POST on your account until a few days later... isn't it so with every credit card purchase?
-
If there's one thing that works perfectly at Dell, it'll be the billing department. There's no way they'd let that slip through
Sorry to shatter you dreams.

I didn't get charged?
